I think money has gone obscene, an average CB has gone for £75mill, he is our best most irresplaceable player and it was deadline day in January (when prices go up anyway). So at that very moment in time, to Leicester, yes he was. Halfway through January? No, I think we’d have taken less as we could have properly replaced him. I think that’s a perfectly fair assessment
Do you think Coutinho is worth £146 million? Van Dijk £75 million Sterling £50 million (when he went) We put that value on him because we didn't want to sell him - it worked - but the market dictates and he is a top drawer player
Was listening to talk sport last night, and they made a good point on the fee for Mahrez. Coutinho was 145m and Sigurdsson went for 45m, so isn't Mahrez somewhere in the middle of that? Which gets you to about the value Leicester rated him at. The money City where offering would have been a bargain in today's crazy market. Leicester did well not to sell at that price, and where right to reject it IMO.
Indeed - he's worth more to us than the prices that were being quoted - as the stats support: Mahrez joined Leicester in January 2014 and was named PFA Players' Player of the Year as the Foxes won the Premier League in 2016. He has scored 35 goals and contributed 24 assists in 127 top-flight appearances Even in isolation those stats are impressive - but when you also put them in the context of a winning league campaign in which we only lost 3 games The reality is this - if Mahrez had done what he has for us whilst playing at Liverpool, Man United or Chelsea then nobody would blink an eye at the kind of price we were demanding ......
People highly rate VVD and Liverpool are a club desperate and in need for a defender hence they overpaid (and everyone agrees they overpaid). Think you hit the nail on the head, january price is higher and it was last day and you couldn't get a replacement. So two answer, you think you are charging more because of circumstances and i have to agree with you there. The question is will he perform and not sulk (in which case why bother keeping him) and will you get the same money in the summer (i don't think he will go for 95m). He's your best player but you have one guy you are trying to develop in his role in Gray and your new signing didn't look to bad in the cup (diabate). you've just chucked in the most expensive signings that everyone thinks people overpaid with desperate clubs. City aren't desperate. You could have said is Giroud worth 18m, Aubamayang whos got a far better record only went for 56m etc. Time will tell whether it was the correct decision. I think maybe around 75 was a fair price. I don't see him going for more than that in the summer and leicester are pretty much safe from relegation so it might be worth blooding gray and diabate (well that wont happen anymore). I can't see him staying past the summer again unless they slap the 95m on him which no one is going to pay imo
Got 2 and half years of his contract left - think we will sell him in the summer - but we are (were) chasing a Europa spot - so I'm damn pleased the club wouldn't budge Pep has said that he wasn't after Mahrez as a temporary replacement for Sane / Jesus - so perhaps they will come back in the summer and we'll be more conciliatory ... who knows?
yup he's interested but he isn't desperate. Barcelona are desperate to show they were the big boys and likewise liverpool are super desperate as their defence is getting ragdolled every other game. If they aren't paying 95m when they had a temporary need to replace sane and jesus i definitely can't see them stumping that up this summer short of the PL tv rights trebbling
... really? ... and there was me thinking Southampton still got some sort of fee in the end for Verisulky van Dijk ... thanks for your valuable insight ... Mahrez will be off for nowt then!
to be honest i think you guys should take mangala and fodden of the mancs. Foddens a great prospect and Mangala might be a bit clumsy on the ball but he's an absolute beast. Huth and Morgan must be past their sell by dates and lets face it, dragovic and benaloune are both pony
Benny - yes he is - Dragovic has been playing really since we've been playing him at centre back - so much so that Puel has hinted that we might make the deal permanent in the summer - him and Fuchs were part of a pretty impressive Austrian International defence at one point ...
You’ve missed the peak of his value by being greedy imo. You paid buttons for him and he’s asked to leave for a number of windows on the spin. You’ll get **** all out of him for the rest of the season imo, and you’re safe in mid table anyway. You should have let the lad go.
Remains to be seen ... still pleased we stood firm .... sends out a good message ... ...and being safe has nowt to do with it .... club wants a Europa spot ...
It sends out a **** message imo, as all you did was haggle over the fee, not refuse to sell. Your star men now know the prices you’re slapping on them are plain daft.
Lukaku ... van Dijk ... Coutinho ... Sigurdsson ... wasn't us started the daft prices ... He has 2 and half years left on his contract ... we didn't want to sell but were prepared to, albeit reluctantly, if that price was met ... because that's the value of him and his contract to us ...
you don't obviously ... "at the right price" ... every player has a price ... as the sale of Coutinho showed
