I said CM/DM. Davis isn't an attacking midfielder. We should never have 3 of Davis, Romeu, Pierre and Lemina in the same team in a home game against trams around us. It's just way too negative imo. That doubles when Prowsey is one of the front 3. Boufal should have been in from the start.
Reed told us they'd found someone who liked to implement high pressing and attacking football when he apppinted MP. Complete lies. I can't even say what our style of play is. We just pass from side to side, going across the pitch before crossing to no one.
Just got back. Not read anything. My view: We're ****. We're doomed. It's my thread and I'll cry if I want to.
The bad news is you have to do the West Brom thread in the morning, and you have your choice of any of the 26 letters of the alphabet.
Been reading through some of the Is there a difference on that site? lol - It's now 6.30am here still pissed but awake gonna stay up for the rest of the day before I collapse. The anger has gone, to be replaced with a sad meh and feeling of despondency. We're relegation bound for sure, think the board have been hedging their bets this transfer window not wanting to spend too much in case we do go down! The Saintsweb has already a discussion on who's gonna be sold and who's starting in our Championship side! I wonder if I should start a thread here?
I have been reading some of the comments on here and wow, some are getting really heated. Guys, like everyone here I love the Solent teams to do well. Besides Southampton, I love it when Bournemouth and Pompey get a bit of success. If Saints are relegated, they deserve to be, but who knows what will happen on Saturday. With the coming of spring, perhaps SFC's form will pick up. Anyhow, there are things that are slightly more important, and right now I am hoping and praying my friend makes a full recovery from a serious operation and I am sure guys like Chilco and Beddy will testify to that.
Davis was high up the pitch all night. His goal threat might be limited, but I disagree about him not being an attacking mid. That's exactly what he was trying to be tonight. I probably would have started Boufal, but I'm certainly not convinced he is the answer to all our problems. You know my views on Tadic, I'd start him ahead of Boufal every time, if it was a case of either/or; that said, he was poor tonight. Not sure how you have a downer on JWP as part of the front 3? Again, I don't see him as a negative or defensive player. Don't get me wrong, I could see all our limitations in the first half. The problem is, our squad is not great, and none of our players are particularly quick witted, or read the game that well (Tadic aside). So even at our best, we're ponderous.
May I add that I did all of Dry January....until now. 11pm and I poured a glass of wine. Bloody Southampton.
Players who would be in demand: Soares Bertrand Gabby Tadic Boufal The downside would be SFC would not get high prices.
We're not ****. We're just not very good. We're not doomed - yet. You might as well cry, everyone else is. We didn't lose, so the next thread is also yours.
Just got back from the game and I'm feeling pretty subdued, probably not helped by the fact I was way too confident all week. This was a must win game and yet we started with such a negative first 11. I don't think when we are at home to Brighton we should be playing with 3 central midfielders in Romeu, Hojbjerg and Davis. Those three are good at stifling attacking teams but offer little going forward. Despondent, maybe wine will help.
With a midfield of Romeu, Davis, Hojbjerg and an attack of JWP, Long and Tadic, there is absolutely no wonder why we can't score many or win games. We have zero threat from anywhere. As proven by only two attempts in the second half which we completely dominated.
And yet this is the core of the team that got to 6th under Koeman. And are the replacements that inferior? I think we know who is answerable for the alarming regression of what is essentially a mid-table PL squad in terms of ability.
Trying is the right word and the issue though as it simply doesn't work. No issue with JWP up top in itself just more that it magnifies the issue of having too many 'sideways first' midfielders behind him. I still think that the biggest issue is that it's just so slow all the time, almost zero imagination at all... Which is why he might not be the answer to our problems but Boufal should start every game for me. Brighton were absolutely terrified of him when he had the ball.
