Coloccini and Tiote are more important than Barton. Probably Cabaye eventually.

Barton's true intelligence and creative abilities are wasted while he's played on the wing. His primary role is to take it down his flank and get the crosses or passes in, and to be honest he doesn't do that any better than any good quality dedicated winger. However, the wing play is all he's done for a long time for us, so if we have a good quality winger to replace him, I don't think our play will miss him that much.

Cabaye and Tiote controlling midfield, then Jonas and another winger working the flanks and putting crosses/passes in near the box. That's all we really need for a solid midfield unit.

    Hi, QPR fan here.

just a thought but maybe, just maybe Barton might feel that now that we have a new owner QPR are getting serious about putting together a team that can compete in the Premier league, and who knows, even finish above Newcastle?

I'd say it's probably because you're offering him a long term contract, with better wages than he's on now*

not having a go, i genuinely believe that. same reason Nolan bailed (difference between the two deals is you've actually gotten a top midfielder, and for free)

I think it is more straightforward than that. Barton has finally realised that the club isn't going to do a U-turn and offer him a new deal and QPR have made him an offer which offers him security for a few years without a pay cut. He has effectively stopped cutting his nose off to spite his face and started thinking logically about his future. He would probaby be speaking to any other club offering the same (no offence to QPR).

ok, fair enough, but i have read through quite a few comments here from toon fans, and i have to say, some have been disrespectful to QPR. to those that have shown disrespect to my team, i ask you this, where is your ambition? you are not exactly world beaters are you? what have your owners got in mind for you? is it not possible that you will end up in a relegation battle come the end of the season?

I think we've got a good enough squad to avoid a relegation battle (provided we get the two signings promised: LB+ST)
Our ambition is top half and a cup run, gradually strengthening with youth and good deals, whilst cutting costs to wipe off our loan debts so we're not going to be moving forward at any significant pace, but then again when the new financial rules kick in we should be a lot better off than most other clubs

    good for you bud.

i think QPR are finally getting serious about being a Premier League team. if, and its still a big if,we manage to land 3 or 4 quality Premier league players, we will survive and progress in the comming years.

i bear no ill feeling towards Newcastle and wish you all the best.

Saw somewhere you are going for Barton and Parker? Excellent midfield if you can get them, alongside Taarabt, or is he coming to Newcastle?

Did you see this Senderos interview re. Barton, plenty of manlove.

I think, as long as you sign some decent players (not just loads of average ones like Blackpool did) you should be fine. I'm hoping you do well (as long as you don't beat us)

Look. QPR are currently seen as relegation candidates. There's no denying it at all. They're been tipped for the drop by many. That may change if you guys start to bring in more players of the calibre of Barton, but as it currently stands, Barton has taken a step down, presumably for more money and a longer contract.

I'm holding out to see if QPR bring in quality players to push for a good finish. Barton is a free agent, so you guys actually spending £5-10million on quality players will be a different story.

Aren't you worried about Taarabt and Barton in the same dressing room? Everyone knows Taarabt is a stroppy **** at times and Barton is very vocal, a disaster waiting to happen.

How long does a medical usually take? I would've thought something more would have developed by now.

His tweet four hours ago said that he was "going for a medical now". That was after he'd been on a train with the mongy reporter for however long.

i know what you are saying, but love him or loathe him,Warnock is a great man manager.

Harry couldnt do a thing with Tarbs at Spurs, but Warnock brought him round to his way of thinking, and it paid off. he was the player of the championship, few will dispute that.

i believe Neil has it in his capabilities ( should we sign Barton ) to get the best out of him.

Your new owner is making all the right noises, he comes across as an honest guy, and genuine about his hopes and ambitions for the club. He has given informative interviews and already involved the fans by reviewing ticket prices. I don't wish to predict if you stay up or not, I did predict you to get promoted last season, but you need to find your feet in a new league. We were in a situation last season where lots of comments were made about how we wouldn't stay up, we would become a yoyo club, and then one I'd never heard before.... second season syndrome. The "Euphoria" or whatever would disappear and down we're going. If you do get Barton, and I've no doubt you will, he will do the business for you, he'll want to because he's wearing your shirt and he'll want to because he'll show our board what they've lost. :emoticon-0148-yes:
