Good about time for me Sick to death for years about image of women being portrayed as eye candy by men. Women generally are far more intelligent than us men Pleased that this and other focus event are being forced to ditch this. Don’t get me wrong it works both ways I have got in a load of trouble in the past when I have questioned women in work who use their sexuality to their advantage I also hate flamboyant behaviour by homosexual men for example ... got me again in a load of hot water at work until I fought my case. We shouldn’t use OTT sexuality to promote ourselves or other things. Wrong? Then imagine if the pit lane girls were dressed up like Nora Batty Time are changing for the better I feel but nanny state also needs to be stopped from going wild
Let’s fact it, the only people really offended are ugly women. So perhaps we should let a few of the munters parade about a bit, then they will feel wanted too.
A sad day gentlemen, the Feminazi’s have taken over, no more grid girls, no more darts walk on girls, i fear the lunatics have finally taken over the asylum.
Decoration. Now a nice little earner for a few days for a few girls is no longer acceptable. Would have thought that punishing the men who can’t keep their unasked hands off them rather than removing their jobs might have been an option. Welcome to the new Puritanism. Difficult not to get a bit bro-flakey about some of this. Heard Carrie Gracie’s evidence at the House of Lords today. The BBC have ****ed up big time and deserve every criticism they get, gender inequality in pay is unforgivable (and ultimately uncompetitive), but the argument now seems to be that everybody with the same job title should be paid the same, regardless of experience, tenure etc. Sorry Carrie, but your four years in China do not equate to Jeremy Bowen’s 13 in the Middle East. Though you are both good journalists.
Shouldn't it be up to the girls that do this? If they are happy doing it, getting paid well and get a day at the races, what's the problem? Will the ban models next? Sadly it's probably some ugly 'yoghurt knitting' lefty birds that have nothing better to do. All this political correctness (snowflake state) will end in tears as people will reject it. Woman were getting exploited more at the BBC and other establishments.
I agree we are heading down the wrong road, becoming robotic, overly governed, no room for manoeuvre or error. They said on the radio earlier that you can expect to get done for doing 31mph in a 30. Control control. But we are right to debate the rights and wrongs of women using their beauty to sell sport or anything else, and consequently, sometimes the other side will win the debate, which is right too. Generalising about their probable looks and political leanings weakens your argument.
'Ugly' 'munters' 'feminazis' Women expressing an opinion that men disagree with brings out so much bile doesn't it?
Woody we are turning into a 'nanny state'. Plenty of examples of stuff they said was offensive and it wasn't. Who is going to reimburse those girls who have now lost a job due to some politically correct moron? Agree women should never be exploited however these PC freaks should stop interferring with peoples livelyhoods. I Seriously don't have time for these people.
I don’t think that the company which owns F1 or the one that runs world darts are ‘pc freaks’. They probably had a couple of meetings and felt that, given the prevailing climate and genuine examples of girls employed simply because they are pretty being abused (eg President’s Club), probably best to avoid problems before they start. No ‘nanny state’ involvement. Think of these girls as the modern day equivalent of the Black and White Minstrels. Not many people would fail to see the offence inherent in that show now, though most didn’t when they were popular. In a few years I suspect most of us will look back with a sense of amazement that it was ever thought appropriate to parade pretty girls around to enhance sporting events. It’s going to be a hard journey for some, mainly people of my gender, age and race. I’m conflicted about some of it myself. Changed my mind a bit in the course of this thread. But it’s easier if you have a 17 year old daughter and an imagination. Important not to merge all these things - genuine abuse, imagined abuse, unequal pay, radical feminism - into one catch all ‘pc gone mad’ pot.
Does this mean that we (Not 606) will have to follow suit with the match day thread? Funny how no one has complained before.
I think it has been brought up before... but perhaps we should have a binary yes/no vote? It'd be the will of the Not 606'ers and then we could discuss about whether we could ever change our minds
