I agree, but the other thing is that they (the owners of F1 past and present) keep doing things that reduce the teams income. i.e. making more pay tv deals that reduce the viewers and thus the sponsors realise less people will see their products so reduce the amount they are willing to pay the teams!

If sky are paying £200 million for current views that works out at over £300 per viewer!!!!!!! They really must be hoping to boost their viewing figures!!
I wont be paying Sky for one.

Maybe I will have to install a dish and get RTL pictures and listen via BBC R5Live if they are still doing F1 coverage.

The problem is the new generation of fans don't pay for subscriptions. They're savy enough to get HD streams. I can't see the likes of sky being able to carry on as is. People are happy to pay 7ish pounds a month for Netflix and the like, but don't have the mindset these days to splurge over 40 quid a month on 700 channels of drab tv.

Have to be honest , I " Treated " myself to the full sky package last year with Mrs J's blessing , on the understanding I would watch it .

Will cancel probably when I can .

As Bruce Springsteen sang , 47 channels and nothing's on ...

Even though we can afford it , we / I cannot justify it . So unless something changes , will bin sky at the end of the contract .

Huge loss of income for those involved in these sports.

Are they going to ban cheer leaders in NFL next?

I'd say both sides of the debate have reasonable enough points.

Can't work out for the life of me why anyone cares though. It's such a non-event for both the sport and feminism.

I agree , they both have reasonable points , but I have to be honest , to me it seems a knee jerk reaction . Has anyone asked the Women involved ?

It's the feminists. All these bloody 'empowered' women speaking up for all the other women who are quite happy doing what they do. They think they're doing them a favour by getting on their soapbox about all this, claiming its degrading, old fashioned etc, but it will put people out of jobs etc and a lot of women enjoy doing these things. A lot of the girls like the glamour, the exposure etc that comes with being part of the F1 scene and now it will be taken away from them through no choice of their own.

If 'empowerment' is about women making their own choices, why do they then make choices for those who are happy with that they do!? :headbang::headbang::headbang:

F1 had to an extent started to address the balance by having grid lads as well into the mix. Why not just expand on that a bit more and maybe increase the ratio of men/women models as surely that then keeps everyone happy? But no, lets suck the joy and colour out of one more thing in this ridiculous nancy PC world we find ourselves in.

Did anyone watch the most recent episode of The Orville where people get punished by public vote? That's where we're heading! Anyone can be offended by anything and someone gets brought to account because of it.

Socialism is on the move again it seems, but history shows that socialism doesn't work...........

    Rant over (for now...........)

Not sure it's just Feminists ,but I get your point .

Imagine you are a young woman who's dream is modelling , you get the chance to be a " Grid Girl " There is surely no bigger stage than an F1 Grid !

Or you LOVE motor sports , and I am sure we all know plenty of women who love motor sports , what better way to get close to the stars / action .

Not so much PC as PR, F1 is run by a media firm now. If there's something that they think is offputting to any demographic it'll go.

As for colour, let's wait and see what they replace it with. If anything my concern is the "show" aspect being colossally over the top (think USA last year), rather than too drab. Adding a few more men in there would seem like an obvious solution I'd agree, or using children as the mascots like they do in football.

Really though I think if they'd have just dropped it quietly it'd probably have taken me most of the season to notice.

I'll happily wear a short frock to get on the grid if they're looking for alternatives. :)

Being cynical I wonder if this saves money!!!! If they had added 'grid boys' then the costs would have increased. So maybe they just used the current thinking about women being taken advantage of to their own agenda. Maybe they used feminism as an excuse to cut costs?
The question is where does it end? Will women be banned from promoting goods, modelling clothes? Surely this is not empowering women it is restricting them?

This PC cr4p is going mad. We are all human beings and deserve to be treated as equals. Advertise the jobs as 'umbrella holders for F1' and let the best 20 people get the jobs and pay them the same!
