Excellent article Leo, and some good points made above , I am getting worried Does Sean have what it takes to be No 1? When will the luck turn ? Are we really that bad that we get beat by Bristol Rovers(and everyone else)?
Can we get a local gypo ,cleric or medium to lift the curse ? because it certainly looks like lady luck has done a runner!

Excellent post BBW - you know your audience and that we know you are not rude enough to say htat except as a joke - or did you mean it <yikes>

Actually I would be disappointed if SD resigned as it would just set us back again - unless we changed strategy completely he is the type of manager we can a) afford and be b) use to work within our constraints. Any other manager would struggle without funds.

I do think that not606 does lack some passion - in particular The Nest has become more of a Tea Room than the "virtual" Pub which was it's original intent...when a regular poster changes their posting name to take a position on a hard hitting news item or not post something contentious in The Nest, then things are getting just too "Guardian" for my liking..

We are football fans whose lives, at least to a small extent, are tied up in the fortunes of a team over which we have absolutely no control. For most of us, we didn't even have a choice over the team we suported. It was an accident of geography, circumstance or family. Psychologists will have a name for this sort of emotional dependence - something to do with locus of control, I would imagine.

The question then arises as to how we deal with the emotional termoil supporting a team like Watford causes. My sense is that those who comment on the Wobby pages have yet to realise their impotence, and they rage against the injustices of fate like some Shakespearean character. We, on the other hand show the maturity of the long suffering, made worthwhile by the periods of absolute joy that can only come from supporting a team like Watford. We believe that "it is better to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" because there is no creditable alternative. We are the chorus commenting on the events of men.

Oh dear! I'm not sure what I set out to say. I'll let you read this very early morning drivl anyway.

W-y totally agree with you mate! Still on the bright side I think we have more members than on 606 which brings a more diverse spread of opinion! I also think the nest has lost a bit of bite ! However some folk have complained that stuff can get easily swallowed up in the nest ,which makes it hard to respond too , If it has an article then its easier to find!
Because of the increased crowd I accept the fact we are not going to please all the people all the time!
The old 606 nest was a lot more pubby!!

Agree with you WY that the Nest has lost some of its edge. It was one reason I set up the Norway-Hornette thread once as that was a good "chat room" for them as they used to chat a lot at night so could do so without "drowning" the Nest. However that has fallen away as the site has grown and others also now "chat" through the night. Still there is no right or wrong here and "off-topic" is neither really a problem or something that should matter too much.

By the way Art stood in for Leo for other reasons than to not be contentious - have PM'd you on that.

Im sorry if i seem a little blunt here, but if the nest is too off topic or lacks passion then post there. It has been very quiet the last week or 2 with the same 6/7 members posting there. We have people posting at the start of their day and then last thing at night. I know people have work and it wont be busy all day, but those who arent at work only have so much to say.

Evening all, Yes I am one of those who hasn't really had much time today to pop in for a <ale>despite having a few things on my mind.

Having seen the news only briefly, I had wondered did the downfall of a dictator justify the action taken by Nato. Without the air support given, I don't think that the rebels (freedom fighters) would be where they are now.

That seems like a pub subject. ;) Another <ale> please.

I'll join you ofh <ale>. Speaking of air support, I've often wondered at watching said freedom fighters - when they fire their AK47's into the air, what happens to the bullets? I read somewhere that the velocity with which they return to earth is still enough to kill.

And to meander even further - AK47's - are they an Icelandic invention by our very own Iceman?

This is a much better board with no over the top reactions to a loss or we are going to win the premier league in a season time with a few victories.

Bottom line is we have not got the quality in the team we used to have. We all want the Hornets to win and should be behind Dyche. Excellent point one of the Hornets said at Bristol Rovers. This is the fourth Rookie manager is are luck going to run out ?

I think we have to give Dyche time a couple of forwards and a creative midfield player and things look a lot better. If however players arent brought in then we will be relegated with the players we have. They are all honest profesionals but again quality is not there.

Hoping we sign the three players needed as the current squad need a boost and if we continue losing then the only way is down....

I think the Nest may have lost its edge due to the fact of the close season, There was two months of just general chit chat and the rumour control to talk about not real football as in no team discussions or results based chit chat. Now the season is under way perhaps things will change but I think something that Dan said actually made sense for those late night revellers, why don't we use this thread as the base rather than clogging up the Nest. This is just an idea, far be it from me to suggest that the Nest should only be for football based discussions. Yes use the Nest for pre and post match discussions but move the general chat about life, gardening and late night revelry to this thread. What does everyone else think?

I think we are all too undisciplined to be able to post where we are supposed to :) - I always like to think I am fairly organised but I post all over the wrong places and I bet I am not alone.

It does not really matter too much does it where we post though - usually some sensible person brings a thread back to "topic"

Good point Dan about using the Nest - I don't think you were too blunt

For what it's worth if I were Dictator of this forum (Laddaffi ?) I would use the Short News items for football items that are not going to have lots of comment; I would have a separate thread for any football or other article that is likely to have lots of responses, the Nest for general pub style chit chat that involves all and then have a thread set up like the Norway/Hornette one (maybe though a Mod could start a new one) for more "personal" chat - like overnight conversations that involve no more than two or three people - as Mod I used to find that reading the Nest in the morning when Norway and Hornette were in good voice took ages :)

However there is an old adage about if it aint broke dont fix it and I do not really see anything much wrong with how we chat and use the board - does anyone else?

There was actually quite an interesting discussion thread on the Guardian yesterday about the physics involved. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/aug/24/how-dangerous-is-celebratory-gunfire?INTCMP=SRCH

Of course I could just be sad and boring...

We are all to undisciplined to post exactly where we should, we all try not to go off topic but it never works. All it takes is a little "that reminds me comment". I think my comment has been misunderstood, i did not mean lets have somewhere else to post as if we have that then the nest becomes obsolete. The nest should be the place for general chat be it football or not, then we will create threads for specific news and topics we wish to discuss in detail, and if there is a marathon then we can deal with it as needed. I meant that if you dont like the topic of conversation in the nest then why not post something and change it. Its been very quiet the last week or so with very few people in there.

I don't like being the party-pooper but with all respect Leonardo this argument that we need to be more 'critical' I can't agree with at all. One of the points that football that frustrate me currently is how fans turn on managers after 3 or 4 poor results. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and I look at the Yellow Order facebook page and its already agreed that Dyche is out of his depth. Utterly annoying and quite funny. Iwelumo has been totally dismissed after a poor 55 minutes against West Ham. Against Burnley he was brilliant, if he had the fitness to last the full 90 minutes I'm pretty sure we would have won as he won around 95% of headers in that game. I prefer this to the Yellow Order easily. Yes we know when we have problems, but I'm not panicking at all. We have a better and more balanced squad then last season, we'll be fine, we just need to scrape that first win to put the confidence back into the squad. Could easily happen on Sunday.

However, you do have a point about the lack of bite on these boards. The main reason for that is that the banter with other supporters of teams that existed so prolifically on 606 has been completely wiped out on here. Sometimes it got a bit too personal and a bit out-of-hand, but it provided the boards with the 'bite' people talk about, and also meant we weren't constantly talking about Watford FC, which does lead to inevitable criticism about our team.
