No but it wont be reinvested - probably make up our profit figures at the end of the season that people seem to forget about.

Plus there is a small matter of relegation that spending money might help with

Fee's can be reinvested in many ways though. The money itself is £70 million fully guaranteed, so it isn't going anywhere. The board would probably be sensible to keep some back in case the "worse" does happen.

We're in this predicament because we have chosen other means of reinvesting a lot of our fees, however. Mostly, we reinvested them in paying back some of the loans to our owner, at which point they were reinvested in her retirement fund when the club was sold.

Not if he wasn’t putting in the effort. Best players play like they are the best.

Think our wage bill and cost of the current squad show that isn't quite the case. More to do with bloating the squad a bit too much and not enough new first XI signings.

Bloating of the squad is definitely a problem; we really need to clear out some of the lesser options.

At the same time, the money is there. With the increased TV revenues, there is no financial need for our transfer income to cover our wages, etc; we, like most of the PL, have witnessed our wage-to-turnover ratio falling even as our wage bill has gotten steadily larger.

Money is by nature fungible; we can say that we're spending our transfer fees on our wages, sure, but that only raises the question of where the money from the TV revenues is going, if not to either wages or transfer fees.

He was still pretty much our best player, even at 75%, which for me was more down to him regaining match fitness then any lack of effort. Certainly in the home games I watched him in. Not that it matters.

It matters in that we put our foot down in the summer, and spent the first half of the season trying to scrape dog **** off our shoe.

PROMES AND "SOUTHAMPTON": WHAT IS TRUE, AND WHAT IS FICTION

One of the outsiders of the championship of England (18th place after 24 rounds) does not give up attempts to acquire 26-year-old Spartak striker Quincy Promes . The leadership of the "saints" acts through the agents of the Dutch, offering a salary that exceeds the forward's salary for the champions of Russia (this is 3.2 million euros per year), and a number of other tempting financial conditions.

At the same time, according to our data, the Moscow club Southampton does not want to pay 30 million euros yet - let's remind that this amount is indicated in Promes' contract with red and white as compensation. There is another nuance: 15 percent of the transfer belongs to Quincy himself and in case of a move for 30 million euros he personally will receive about 4.5. Accordingly, the British should fork out almost 35 million. At the moment, the "saints" are not ready for this, but negotiations continue. (Sergey YEGOROV, Vyacheslav KOROTKIN)

    https://8news.ru/news/football/2018...agayet_za_promesa__28_mln?from=sport-category

    edit: and i found this:

Basically saying we are matching his wages of 3m + bonuses and our offer is approaching the buy out clause and spartak are trying to convince him to stay and don't want to sell him until the summer.
