a better example is his work which was painted over on the shutters of one of the restaurants down Humber St (Butler and Whites or the Tapas place...I cant remember)
Discussed on here at length at the time and subject to much moaning in the media (and rightly so) ...despite Pinky not being Banksy

Doesn’t matter, it wasn’t done by Banksy.

    It was Ambiente Tapas place.

The one on the side being covered is worse, as it's such a visible space that helps make up the character of the Fruit Market area.

I copied in Burnsy to the image on Twitter (as seen on previous page), but no response.

I do believe that’s a hammer squarely hitting a nail on the head.

The same applies to most Hull residents. Though they all would admire them on the side of someone else's house.

    I like Banksy's stuff
I have a great book of his stuff all over the world and the ones on the wall at the Gaza strip are brilliant
For what its worth I don't think ours is one of his better ones...but then again I'm no art critic

Whether people agree or not is irrelevant. His work brings people to areas which increases footfall and in some cases tourism. Whoever owns the building simply takes that into account, along with the value of it is they decided to sell it, and then they can decide if they want to leave it or get rid of it. Simple 'business'; decision really, and clearly the Council think it is worth preserving

But surely he’s destroyed the original graffiti that was there? He doesn’t own that wall or building he sprays on so comparing it to someone’s car is missing the point.

His so called art IS vandalism. That’s the point probably.

I like some of his stuff too, it’s clever, but it’s still graffiti and as said above, someone else doing the exact same thing could likely end up being charged with an offence rather than seeing it sold for frankly stupid money.

Ahh but I imagine a large number of your unwashed, non-Radio 4 listening, non-Will Self worshipping, non-Observer reading Hull residents wouldn’t be in raptures if a Banksy appeared on the side of their house either.

And what of the excellent street art not done by Banksy that is removed / defaced on a daily basis?

Excuse my confusion, but where was that image from?

The large artwork of the bloke spraying the other artwork off isn't actually on the bridge is it...so how come it appears in this picture?

    Cheers

    Same applies
The owner makes a 'business' (for the want of a better word) decision and decides whether to leave it or remove it
The Council had clearly decided to leave the other artwork on the bridge already

I'm pretty sure, although not 100%, that I'm agreeing with you

It was the only picture I saw at first so I wondered why everyone else was focussing on the little part of the picture! :emoticon-0111-blush

Which is why I said most Hull residents. The all referred to people in both Hull and East Riding.

Most of them remain where they went up, but some have been removed and sold.

I've no idea how they managed to move this thing, but it was sold to a Qatari buyer (along with four smaller ones) for £3.2m...

There's a permanent Banksy exhibition on at Moco in Amsterdam. There was also a bigger Banksy exhibition on Beurs Van Berlage on Damrak when I was there a couple of years ago - all donate from collectors around the world.
