And yet the entire industry is built upon pretentious ****s who only care who has done it, not what has been done.

If anyone is popping down to see the Banksy, there's another one round the corner that's worth a look (Lockwood Street)...

I mean it's not a huge issue for me, I'm just curious why it's something to be celebrated and why it being graffitied over is a really bad or sad thing.

This is my impression of it too. Happy to be convinced otherwise but it seems very manufactured and middle-class.

Some people like his stuff, others don't, I just think those that like it should be left to enjoy it without some tosser trying to destroy it. To me, it's no different to some jealous ****er keying a car, it's just pointless vandalism.

Indeed, I’d say the same about any street art of worth but sadly some apply different rules for the oh-so-mysterious-and-trendy Banksy.

I particularly enjoy the painting of a spunking dick in any environment yet some killjoys insist on removing them.

Oh dear, not genuine prole art threat? Why can't the middle classes produce real art? Dead Bod was painted by a Trawler Captain & Chief Engineer not the oily rag. Art should be classless.

I’m sure he can speak for himself but when referring to the ‘middle class’ I thought he meant the faux effusive reverie regarding anything attributed to the elusive Banksy, rather than who produced said art.

Thats inverted snobbery too, the 'faux effusive reverie' like Banksy so working class blokes from Hull shouldn't? Banksy is satire, some of the best English satire originates from Oxford & Cambridge (Python/footlights etc) enjoyed by all.

As a massive Python fan I know that,

I think you’re misunderstanding that I’m saying Banksy is adored by the middle classes yet the vast, vast majority of other street artists are viewed as the dregs by the very same people.

If Zammo from OPE painted a beautiful image on Tarquin’s garage wall you can be sure it would be removed immediately, which is entirely my point.

    Exactly.
Personally I think his work is excellent.
I remember first seeing his work whilst at Uni in Bristol.

That's because you have to be Oxbridge, be called Tarquin and leave the gender box on the form blank to be allowed to produce comedy by the BBC.

I love the work Banksy does and it's a shame it was vandalised. Ironically in a City that has just had a 'City of Culture Year'. It's not for everyone, but as has been demonstrated it's another tourist opportunity that will pull people from outside the area to see a genuine 'Banksy'. It's a shame some cretin saw fit to attempt to spoil it.

I simply don't think that's true nowadays, the reaction to the large amount of street art around the city is largely positive from people from all walks of life.

Oh yes, I’m sure most East Riding residents who fawn all over Banksy would love to see Zammo’s work emblazoned in 10ft images on the side of their house located not in Greater Hull.
