Yes, I'd definitely agree with that. He was very good in both games against Madrid alongside Winksy. I thought he made Casemiro look weak and ineffective.

That or Madrid were just ****.

<laugh> I wouldn't have quite put it that way but know where your coming from. To me football and sissoko shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.I am more annoyed at whoever at spurs decided we should buy him.know doubt he has pace and strength but that's all he has.can't pass can't read situations and is a liability wherever he is on the pitch.

I wouldn't say he's a liability Rocky as for a player who often helps out back in defense, he rarely makes a mistake in a dangerous area. Compare to the likes of Dembele, Aurier, Trippier, Rose, Dier, Alli & Wanyama who have all given the ball away in our third leading to the opposition scoring, I can't recall Sissoko doing the same.

The real issue is as others have said - he is simply incapable of creating anything. As soon as he gets the ball and we're on the attack I know that one of two things will happen: he'll trip over the ball and give it back to the opposition, or he'll hit a 5 yard pass out of play for a throw. I feel that his best position is CM where that strength, engine and surprisingly sensible play on the ball can be used to shield the defense and win back possession from the back. Problem is you'd need to put a Xavi or a Modric next to him to build anything remotely resembling an attack. Using him as one of the '3' is a complete waste of time though. Compare him as a footballer to the likes of Son or Eriksen and it makes you laugh...or cry.

It does make you wonder how he ever became a professional footballer though ,let alone bought for 30 million when he can't pass a ball 5 yards.it also amazes me when footballers can't kick with both feet but that's another story.

This is so true, so many go to the wayside, who looked at Sissoko and decided he had what most don't. He appears to go into a panic when a chance looks on - either for a killer pass or a shot on goal. Also staggering to see how little control he has on a football when running with it, starts well enough but will eventually overtake it and leave it behind.
If this doesn't guarantee a hat-trick next game, then I am no RCL.

Agreed. Which is why Lamela will never be good enough for the first team.

Can’t agree with that. Before his long lay-off he was an integral part of the team and hopefully he will get back to that level. Who needs two feet when you can score Rabonas like him?

I have said time and again there are plenty of good young promising players in our lower leagues we could get for peanuts compared to what everyone is paying for these footballing mercenaries surely it is worth taking a chance on some of these or have we now got to the stage where football has changed so much that success and money are more important now.I for one love nothing better than seeing players come through our ranks and make it to the first team or players we could pick up from lower league teams and nurcher them to make them successful in our club.huddles tone Dawson walker to mention a few even the great Sheringham was once at millwall ffs they are still out there just look at the kid from Norwich.

Pretty much said similar to this on the transfer thread, the championship is full of excellent talent at the moment and teams are somewhat being stupid by avoiding that market just because they're in the division below.

Sessegnon, Maddison, Watkins, Diogo Jota, Helder Costa, Neves, Assombalonga, Gibson and I'm sure a bunch of others I've not mentioned are all capable of playing at some level in the Prem.

Injuries aside, Lamela has not really matched the
expectation of his price tag (add-ons or not) .
However he has provided a number of important
goals/assists for the team, so not a complete waste.

If Sissoko is going to be allowed a 3rd season,
then by my reckoning he is going to have to outscore
one of Eriksen/Alli and match their assist count.

See that happening, do you ...

Lamela as you say was impressive before his injury and his pressing game was very good I'd rather have coco than sissoko any day if he can stay fit ....as for sissoko get rid wages can be spent on better things

I can't help but feel that any purchases are going to be, at least partly, offset by sales. As much as Mauricio Pochettino may like Lamela [and I rate him as a decent player], he is the obvious candidate to leave. We're used to playing without him and there will be Italian clubs that would see him as a catch and do have the sort of money that would make such a deal happen.

There's also the fact that his contract's running down. Do we commit to 4 or 5 years of intermittent appearances at really significant wages? I'm not sure that's the best use of the money at this point when we can get a Lucas Moura and/or Malcom and add some pace and probably more of a threat on goal than we muster right now.

That's a fair point you make Brian but surely he can't be on as much as sissoko or can he? .

RE Lamela, must admit it's been disappointing that he hasn't stepped up a notch yet. He's had sufficient time to get back into a groove but is still looking off the pace, ironically his best game since returning from injury was his first one when he came off the bench and assisted Kane in the loss to Leicester.

Without a pre-season it always seems tough for players to fit in but Lamela's been here long enough to know our ways.

I still rate him as a great player on his day but if someone told me we'd have to sell him in order to bring in one or two others, I'd be happy to do so now.

No but from memory, there's not that much in it. Sissoko's probably off to the World Cup and is getting regular football. Lamela's probably not making it for Argentina, so the turmoil of moving would affect him far less.

Plus, someone's got to bid £20m plus for Sissoko. If I was a DOF at a foreign club, who would I recommend that my club sign? If I wanted to keep my job, it would be Lamela.
