The general opinion I got from your board (before he left) was that he was hit and miss and to be honest in the games I saw (liveish) on TV he was either fantastic or I didn't realise he was playing.
I would agree except the refs are a bad combination of ego and cowards. It should be like American football. The main ref is the ref... By all means vid guy can say in his ear you might want to look at it. But that should literally be the convo as you say. Then go over to sideline by that time the 3 angles should be prepped on the monitor for him then decide. Reason I say do tennis like challenges is because I believe refs are gutless and will faff. If you win your challenge you keep it. If you lose you don't. Game has minimal disruption and you still give a team a chance not to be screwed over. I mean in these days with sky on mobiles/tablets the team on sideline will have seen a replay within seconds. Then throw your "flag". (Tell fourth official youre challenging).
I think challenges are way too open to abuse as a means of momentum killing. Works in sports where there are a lot of natural breaks in play but not in football imo.
How if it's only one? You try the time wasting ****e you lose it. That's it ****ed for rest of match. If genuine and proved right then it's not time wasting and you keep the challenge.
Then it could still be used for that tactic later imo. The decision to review should always stay with the officials.
Tonight's match would be a good example. I think we'd have thrown the flag on the penalty but not the offside. But if we had we would have kept the challenge to do both. If we'd thrown on the Matip own goal we'd have lost the challenge.
I know what you mean but who does the challenge, the manager sat 50 yards away from the incident? Can a manager really see who is off-side in the area, can he see if the ball went out for a throw on the opposite side of the pitch?
I didn't see the game so not seen any of incidents reviewed/not reviewed. Like I say I'm not a fan but if it is to be used I think it should be only for the officials to review, the ref on the pitch to have the final decision and for it to have to be a CLEAR error for a decision to be overturned, so no "well on the 8th angle at this speed it did slightly brush his arm so penalty" bollocks. Clear mistakes only. Not sure how it's going to work long term with offsides too.
That doesn't make sense. Today's game was delayed for about 10 minutes...rightly for 2 decisions...wrongly for a third. And how much of a delay? Feck sake players go down injured for 5 minutes with "cramp" to delay the game. Players roll 5 times and pretend they've been hit in the face.... have a challenge where that is shown to be cheating . ...it stops. Honestly think it'll be the opposite...managers will be terrified of using it in case something blatant happens and they get **** for losing the match for wasting it on time wedding earlier. As I said I'd prefer the yank system but tonight just showed me our refs are not up to the job.
Not so much a delay but stopping a late counter attack when defending a 1-0 lead in an uneventful game etc.
No but like the yanks they have someone sitting on a tablet or screen and they are buzzed to challenge. We see a replay within 30 seconds of an incident you're not telling me with their multi millions the PL (and we are talking about just the elite) can't have it up instantly?
I can see many sackings occurring there You buzzed me to challenge and you were wrong, we wasted that challenge
Except it wont. The ref doesn't have to stop the game immediately. So say there's been a dodgey decision one end penalty appeal...the defending team break and score... if flag thrown in midst of that it's reviewed after ...if genuine the goal is disallowed and penalty given other end.... as it should be. If jyst an attempt to disrupt it fails...goal stands and penalty not given.
How long can the game go on for before it's pulled back? If a player commits a red card offence and it's then pulled back does the player still get sent off as it happened it a bit of play that techincally didn't happen - hope that makes sense
