We won but too many chances missed and Yoshida has gone back to old Yoshida who makes mistakes all the time

Win is a win though. Just need to beat Brighton on wednesday

Very good win. Good momentum at the start of a massive week. For about an hour we were excellent; far, far better than our opponents. And the spell of about ten minutes early-ish in the second half was possibly our best spell of the season.

And then the manager makes one of the worst substitutions I have ever witnessed.

We were comfortable when he made the change. We were in control and there was no need to do it. We didn't dominate after the sub. There were 25 minutes left when Yoshida came on. That is far too long to shut up shop for. Watford had 2 clear chances to equalise after that time and we had no chances at all. He got lucky. If he had made that change in the last 10 minutes, fine. But we were playing Watford in a cup tie and we were the better team. That sub smacked of negativity and desperation. I can't back a manager who hasn't got the balls to go for the second goal against a very average team at home in a cup tie. It was the perfect game to tell the players to go kill off the game. There were no points up for grabs. Instead he has further installed the "one goal is enough" mentality in the players and I find it pathetic management.

By the way, if Newport beat Spurs, this will be the best season ever. Despite how crap Saints are doing.

Putting the main debate of the substitution to one side for a moment, I would say that Boufal was coasting to my MOTM at that point. I know he's not universally loved, but the boy does have talent. Of course it helps that it made my best mate Janmaat look even more useless than usual.

But with Boufal departing the scene so early, come the end of the match, PEH had pipped him to my MOTM.

(Long's finishing aside, and ignoring the fact that Pied was having to play emergency LB, I thought the whole team played well. Even Davis.)

Loved the fight out there today, our players put in a shift for that win. We played well in parts but often lost our way in the final third, final ball and end product is still a problem. Watford were, as their fans sang '****ing ****'. Boufal shouldn't have been taken off so early though, he was a real livewire throughout and worked hard off the ball too. Hopefully they can take a nice chunk of confidence from that win and continue with that fight into the Brighton game.
Did anyone see what happened to Bertrand?
