Speaking neutrally, they should just work out which association would have got their place, had Turkey not been included in the rankings and give it to them.
Gab Marcotti on 5live reckons FC Copenhagen would get the place if it doesn't go to a Turkish side - he said that the next best placed CHAMPION would get the place
Did Fenerbahce have to qualify? I suppose the easiest answer if they did was to reinstate the team they beat (basically giving them a bye into the group stages). If not, just keep going down the Turkish league until you find the first team not implicated in the scandal. At least for once honesty would have paid.......... Failing that, give the space to a team that has entertained and bought a refreshing attacking outlook to the Champions League in the not so distant past. Maybe a team who were cruelly denied playing again this season by outside forces (i.e. were **** for too much of the season). Someone like..... ooohhhh.... I don't know..... Spurs maybe?
imo liverpool should get in - because i am biased. cant see it happening though, arsenal will get it if they lose, if they win then the highest seeded loser will get it. and rightly so
It seems rather problematic. Trabzonspor has also been accused and they were already knocked out in the third qualifying round of the Champions League against Benfica. Trabzonspor (2nd), Bursaspor (3rd) and Besiktas (4th) are all playing tomorrow in the Europa League play-off second leg. If Trabzonspor have been accused then they can't be the ones taken to the Champions League, which would mean they are also withdrawn from the Europa League. That would mean that whatever the result tomorrow, Athletic Bilbao, the team that they are playing against, will take their Europa League place. So we have to look at Turkey's thrid placed team being Bursaspor. They would have to be promoted into the Champions League regardless of tomorrow result's and Anderlecht, the team they are playing against, take their Europa League position. Would be rather comical if Anderlecht knock them out (which is most likely as they beat them 2-1 in Turkey) of the Europa League and they are then put to play in the Champions League.
Knowing UEFA, they'll probably give to some random non-European team with a ton of money or LA Galaxy! I'm only half joking, to be honest.
PleaseNotPoll..... You just know that it will go to the Qatari national team. And of course it will have nothing to do with a large quantity of brown paper envelopes stuffed with cash that just happened to turn up at UEFA headquarters.
Who won South America's competition this year? Invite them over if they don't mind the trip. There are non-South American teams in the Copa America... would be fun to have a visiting team over.
If it's not to be a Turkish side, then this would be the most sensible solution. FC Copenhagen have a 3-1 home defeat to overturn tonight away to Czech Republic side, Viktoria Plzen. Assuming they do that, then it should be the next best placed champions after FC Copenhagen.
ahhhh scousers grasping at straws. lol, not long ago it was ``it,s good we,re not in europe we can concentrate on the domestic side of things`` haha. wont happen anyway it will just go to the next highest turkish team that is not affected. imo.
Actually, if you read anything- you'll see it's us saying it won't be us... it is other people saying it will.
I honestly dont think the premier league is corrupt. I am sure there has been a small amount of corruption, but everyone is so well paid that I doubt they would jepodise that. Also we have the most intrusive media anywhere in europe. Turkey isnt a free country, whereas any scandal would quickly get found out by the media (using any technique they want *cough* phone hacking *cough*) in england.
That's true, Arsenal have been throwing matches for years, every year you think they are doing well, and then they just throw it away.. I blame those betting syndicates!
Are you serious? Betting syndicates cannot influence Premier league matches, the difference in the cost of fixing results or match incidents in the PL compared to obscure South American teams is enormous! Besides, as far as I'm aware the Turkish match fixing problem is to do with bigger clubs trying to garuntee wins for the club's gain rather than any betting implications. If you can show me any evidence of similar in the Premiership I'd be very interested to see it.
BREAKING NEWS UEFA confirm that Liverpool have been granted automatic entrance into the group stages of the champions league due to their superior coefficient, compared to all other teams. More to follow!
Holy Cow! Just heard it on the radio... Amazing- never would have thought it possible. Anyone know how we'll be seeded?
