i heard that but didn't know what was gonna happen. Well it makes the most sense doesn't it. Simpson wasn't nigel's choice was he ? (i forget) my view on simpson is that he was bought as an impulse buy. cheap from arsenal, seemed promising. We had to give it a go but I'm not convinced he was a player we'd tracked down for months, if you catch my drift. Thanks for clearing that up OLM... wasn't there talk of a PL striker? or is that just rumour? if it is then le fondre or waghorn aren't it obviously...
Aaron Mclean will do the biz. Just give him time. Andy Cole needed 6 chances to score one and so did the likes of Les Ferdinand. Jay Simpson is the most talented striker on the books but lacks confidence. What City could do with is a striker coach and to practice One on Ones with the keepers in training. That may well do the trick. But with Bullard gone now, i would say buy Baldock and La Fondra outright and for less than 2million. If the Allams want the PL riches then its time to splash some cash again.
real problem though, is everyone just expects (from stats) that a player is going to come here and just bang them in from day one... it could happen but that's quite rare. I'm seriously starting to wonder whether we're just not providing enough chances or if it's the strikers not taking them that's a problem. it could be both which is the worse scenario... I just think we need to be careful, we just brought in a whole load of players and I don't think the atmosphere will be that nice if those players are on the bench (or not even) a few weeks after signing on the dotted line. Imo if we're bringing in then we gotta shift.
i agree. but it will be tough. I like mclean a lot and i think he can be a brilliant partner for another striker (look at koren's goal vs pool) i just think it's all a bit of a jigsaw mess up top at the moment. PS: are you really french or just a username?
I would suggest its a case of not taking the chances we already create. City should have had at least ""4"" against Blackpool, ""2 or 3"" against Macclesfield and before they got there 2nd. at least ""3"" at Leeds and ""2"" against Crystal Palace. As NP says, City need to start converting the chances. What on earth do the strikers do on the training pitch i wonder ? How about some hours spent doing one on ones with the keepers ? Hitting a ball from 8 yards out, stuff like that.
Like all good jigsaws they take time - But when complete the picture looks fantastic. No i am Cottingham born and Willerby bred. 100% Yorkshireman. But the wife loves My Tickler and French Onions.
the blackpool chances of fryatt and simpson were pretty shocking, it could be confidence but i mean we can't do the work for them right? I think we have the players to bang in loads of goals but i don't know. the training sessions need to be more attacking. Even the midfield, we have players who do score the odd goal but they need to start shooting on sight more often.
We bought Simpson when we were skint, he was only £50k and now we have other options, he's fallen by the wayside. I was told we were after a keeper, a centre back and a striker and that two of those three were from Premier League clubs. The keeper was Guzan, but I've no idea if the other PL player was the striker or the centre back, but I'm hanging on to my unheathy obsession with Matty Kilgallon and hoping that other PL player was him. The fact that El-Hadary is on trial and was only invited two days ago(after I was told we were trying for Guzan again) then maybe we've been told we can't have Guzan, he is currently No.2 at Villa after all.
yeh with friedel gone guzan's not going anywhere. Ok well we shall see. I don't mind the silence, it may help with the transfer but I'd love to know who NP's looking at.
There seems to be a daft procedure when it comes to signing lower league players. Championship teams rarely buy div. 2 and non-league players at low prices because they're seen as too much of a risk. So instead they are bought by div. 1 teams for a few hundred thousand and prove to be a great success. A year or two later the div. 1 club sells the same player to the Championship team for a couple of million. Madness! What's the bet that if we don't go for Le Fondre now he will be too expensive (like Mikail-Smith) when we decide we do want him?
Le Fondre seems to be different from what we've got - bit more physical than Matty Fryatt. I would certainly take a punt on him for 400k. The lad Waghorn, if available would also be another decent shout albeit similar to Fryatt I believe and would cost at least a mill I reckon. Mclean is never likely score a hatful at NPC level but his raw energy is a threat to the opposition and there is a lot more to come from him I believe. Either way reckon Simmo's gonna be squeezed out.
Waghorn is a bit different to Fryatt. Got an ace left foot and delivery. More of a creative player than a goalscorer.
I agree with the comments about Mclean and I think Pearson's made a big blunder by not playing him the last two games with Fryatt from the start, it might be an old-fashioned view but I think strikers hunt in pairs.
