Didn't get a chance to post when I got back last night. At last we seem to have a Coach/Manager who knows what he needs to do. He studied the opposition and set us up accordingly. Whilst he basically set us up defensively with 2 banks of 5 players it was different to Clement as we also had an attacking threat. Ayew is playing the best he has since joining us and, wait for it, Clucas did a decent job - playing in a similar position to where he played for Hull. The defence did really well, especially the 3 CBs and Fab was simply fab - he was my MOM. Fer put in a decent shift - not as lazy as he sometimes is. Yes I know it was reminiscent of Rorke's Drift at times - especially towards the end, but hey, what did we expect to do - outplay Liverpool? 3 welcome and unexpected points. Now if we can get something from either Arsenal or Leicester, then who knows. We seem to have some hope at last ..... and the Fat Lady has sat back down......
Agree with that apart from MoM - but I wouldn't take a lot of persuading TBH. Someone I sit near commented on Van der Hoorn's pace last night - donkey I thick he said. I disagree as does whoever wrote this piece 'Three Gunners and two Swans in team of the week' Fabianski & MVdH 'Centre-half: Mike van der Hoorn (Swansea City) Alfie Mawson got the goal, the impressive stats, and the game-saving block, but van der Hoorn had the more consistent match. No way he was going to be perfect against the Liverpool onslaught, but his decision-making was consistently good, he timed his interventions well, and the few times he was in danger he recovered effectively. I have to admit that Mawson’s game-saver came the one and only time van der Hoorn wound up out of position. But although Mawson made lots of plays, he was also clearly beaten twice for possible scoring chances. I thought Van Der Hoorn was really good again last night - I think he's our most improved player this season.
My view has always been he'd be a far better CB than Mawson if he'd been given the same game time and 'allowances'.
I thought he was excellent in his interceptions, hell he must have got a nose bleed when he ran into the Liverpool half.
They all played their part last night and if i had to pick one for the MOM i would have to pick Ayew who has been consistent under Carlos and that is the major key if we are to survive.CONSISTENCY...I feel we are getting there now but there is still a lot of work to do yet. Can we do it ?.....Sure we can....
It's always nice to take points off the scousers, they are a much improved side under klop, but still vulnerable at the back on times, happy days aye..................
Just met someone who sits near us in the Liberty and started talking about the game. The way he spoke about it was a bit odd as he wasn't in his usual seat. Anyway he let slip he and his mate were in with the Liverpool fans as they were his Premier League side! I should have asked how much he got for his season ticket seat, but just turned and walked away.
Not surprising but still indefesible imo that someone would support a team based 200 miles away against his home town club , i’d Embarrass him at every opportunity
I suppose the "problem" or "issue" is that for long periods in our history, we have been in the lower Leagues and people, definitely of certain vintages, chose to support one of the "big" teams, especially the likes of Liverpool & United. I was certainly in a minority of one in solely supporting the Swans when I was in Primary School, although there were a few, and I mean a few, when I was in the Grammar School who were exclusively Swans' supporters. People are often 'success chasers' rather than (hard core) fans. I can't imagine many of these 'Johnny come Latelys' would have seen 22 out of 23 games in 1968/69 season in the old Fourth Division as I did as an 11 year old. Anyway, at least we had the last laugh on Monday evening - we won that battle, let's hope we win the 'war' and stay up.
That's why I wrote 'certain vintages' rather than 'a certain vintage'. When he was under 12, we were in League Two - basically, the same age as when I saw/attended 22 Fourth Division matches at The Vetch.
