I hear that ROT has already got Roland's goat - he says it's being run by "nasty ex-Charlton fans" or something like that. A grain of truth in the silly old bugger's words for once - Those fans are 'ex-Charlton fans' in the sense that they support the Charlton Athletic that existed before he took it over and gutted it. The 'Ex' Charlton Athletic that no longer exists, replaced by his player farm theme park. Core actors, vinegar pissers, nasty ex-fans - Here's to everybody who has put their time and effort into making Duchatelet acknowledge that his brand of naive bungling and total indifference is not wanted in SE7 Do one decent thing by us Roland and make yourself our nasty ex-owner as quickly as possible. Then we can get on with the job of putting right all that you've wrecked.
My mother and brother-in-law both died of cancer so I'm not happy at all.... I'm pretty sure Craig Norris would be disgusted.
What are we saying now, that any reference to the term 'cancer' in a political context is beyond the pale, because it is an insult to people who suffer from cancer? Political correctness is not just something to be disapproved of only when the other side uses it. What if ROT had used the word 'disease' instead of 'cancer'? Should everybody who has ever had a disease automatically be offended by their statement?
I lost my grandmother, mother and sister to cancer. I can't say I felt bothered by this reference, after all it's not the first time Roland has been described in this way.
I'm sorry too. I don't know, but I can imagine over on ITTV there are several members who have jumped all over the 'cancer' reference in exactly the same way. Not because they are genuinely offended, but because they hate ROT and have seized on the 'cancer' remark as a great big handy PC stick to beat it with. This is why it is increasingly difficult to have a frank debate about anything. Because taking offence has become the express elevator to the moral high ground. Once somebody claims they have been personally offended by something, it's game over. No point arguing the merits of the case anymore, the offended party has already won - cloaked in indignation and crowned with righteous laurels.
I lost my dad to cancer. I don't find the reference offensive. Roland is on the other hand extremely offensive.
My wife had breast cancer, and I know posters on here have been/are affected by loved ones having cancer. Not offended, it’s just extremely poor taste.
Cancer is an horrific illness, I just think people who have experienced it would not relate it to Football. I may have done it myself in the past but wouldn’t now. Their comment wasn’t malicious, just inappropriate.
A fair point. I too do not believe the use of the term was meant to offend anybody, except possibly Duchatelet. If it does cause widespread upset that will detract from the point the entire statement was trying to make. In their place - and with hindsight of course - I would probably have used the word 'disease' instead.
Can I ask you exactly what have you done to at least try to do something by way of protest.....other than sitting behind your keyboard taking a swipe at anyone who does. As far as I can gather the answer is SFA!
Must disagree. They are only funded by donations I assume, so it's their money (or money freely given) to 'waste'. And it's their time too. I'm pleased that somebody is willing to keep reminding Duchatelet that he is disliked or even despised by most Charlton fans - remind him with action (rather than hostile social media or forum talk). It's always the people who step up and do something who get shot at. Criticism is fair enough, as they won't always make the right decision or do the right thing. But they are willing to do something. 20,000 empty seats in the Valley for each game hurts RD in the pocket, but he can take that and he simply does not care about the misery and apathy he has caused. At least the Belgium 20 and ROT actually annoy him.
Nope, I have never worked for the Scottish Football Association ? Regarding what have I done - I was one of the original car park protesters from Day 1 - along with others on here. I also told Meire & Murray to their faces what I thought of them. Have never applied for jobs with Meire or taken hospitality off the Regime - unlike senior CARD members ... #Hypocrites
