What a fantastic effort from the team tonight, they, like me should be very proud of their efforts. Once again they have done BCFC proud!! That was a full strength Man City side that we pegged back from 2-0 down, that Mags made that same mistake at the same end against Cardiff for their goal
Slightly disappointed with how we played first half , but over the two games nothing to be upset about, best team won in the end, you really notice how class the likes of Silva, Aguero and De Bruyne are up close rather than watching them on tv.
He spoilt everything. It could have been a different story and outcome had we gone in level. I hope he got the bollocking he bloody well deserved for not hoofing the ball out of play, not once, but bloody twice !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant effort overall and we showed the Championship can compete with the best club team in the world at times. We are also a credit to Bristol. Although I have to say at other times it was men against boys..............
I'd rather quote it as good footballers against brilliant footballers!! Mind you, with the money spent putting that side together..they bloody should be!!
I loved this from Pep, Guardiola added: "We are going to prepare completely different against Cardiff to how we prepared for Bristol City, because Cardiff, they play a lot of long balls." not sure OldSparkey and his valley dwelling boyos will like it though.......
If it was a different story with the same possession and shots it would be normal for Bristol City to still be losing. Each Bristol City hoof, each mislaid pass is another attack to defend and the ultimate consequence is conceding and error. What was displayed was the value of having footballers in each position. Bristol City were unable to break Man City's fluidity with their own fluidity. The class of Man City highlighted a realistic area for improvement in the Championship for Bristol City where the ball is not moved through the first third cohesively - Defending is keeping the ball.
We've got no probs with Pepe saying that supcon - great effort from you lot last night BTW. Sunday will be a different game for them but in all honesty everyone is expecting the same result. The fact that Pepe recognises he'll have to combat something different is a mark of respect not disparagement. He probably also looked at the Championship table and saw that we were above you so must be doing something right. If we turn them over (or even force a replay) it will be a miracle after watching them recently. They are a class apart at the moment, but they can concede - you proved that last night. They don't like being run at, and if direct football achieves that then so be it because like you, we wont beat them on the floor.
Echo my fellow bluebird. Great effort and hard lines. I am a rare breed over this side of the bridge as I have a lot of time for Bristol City having gone over to watch them a few times in the old first division days in 70's when Cardiff were away. They had some decent players back then eg Whitehead, Merrick, Gow, Tainton, Collier plus the old lads brought in like Cormack, Royle and Hunter. I'd be happy to see booth clubs in the PL but sorry not at Cardiff's expense if it is just the one going up.
I think we can keep our heads held high over both games, We didn't have a realistic chance of going through, and despite Man City's dominance possession-wise in both games, their shots on target were kept down. That said, I'm a little uncomfortable with City receiving too much praise. Yes, the odds were stacked against them, and the performances/attitude good, but ultimately they lost both games, so I'd rather say 'good effort' and quickly move on. This Cup run has been a lot of fun, and the Man Utd game will be remembered for years to come, but in a way it's nice to know that we can focus 100% on the League again. With players returning from injury, Walsh and Kent in, as well as probably this French striker, I'm hoping we can string some good performances, and more importantly, results together and give us the best chance of promotion. Wolves are probably too far ahead for anyone to catch and Derby are on a great run currently, but there's still 18 games (more than a third!) left to go to make it happen and I still think there's reason to be optimistic, despite what has been a poor run of results on paper.
I'm absolutely sure Lee, the coaching staff and the players who were competing against Man City will have leaned from that and I feel the way we play this season indicates that we aspire to the Pep style. What a great lesson for everyone involved and I'm so proud of our lads' performance over 2 legs against such a magnificent footballing giant. Very well done to all involved and let's take a shed load of confidence and belief into the back end of our league campaign. COYR
One of my managers is a huge Wolves fan (he is from there I suppose )but chatting to him he’s panicking as results have not been great and in his words Forest just over ran them. I can sort of understand even though our lead wasn’t that big when we won league one. Out in front of the run in games come round lot slower than in a relegation fight. I don’t think they could be caught but who knows in this league? All I do know is Fulham, Brentford and Middlesbrough are slowly catching us all up.
