I need to get myself to a South Shields game. I’m guessing it’s a mix of Geordies and Mackems that go?

It's almost all Geordies (of which I'm one, and almost everyone from 'Sheels is, too - being born within a mile of the tyne) and mainly Sunderland supporters, 'cos it's a 'red & white town' but there are plenty of mags, too and it's always friendly 'cos we're all Sandies (most of which do not like being referred to as Geordies, 'cos of the inaccurate association that you just made) :emoticon-0105-wink:

No idea mate. Despite my allegiance I only moved to the NE in July, and some of the nuances are new to me. I thought that Geordies were just local to Newcastle and certain areas of South Tyneside

I remember being told Geordies, were born on North Bank of Tyne and Northumbrian's, were called "Humphries".
Mackems (Sandy Geordies) are Geordies with Brains (banter). Recently (80'sapprox) Mackem was intended as an insult from the darkside ones.
All good stuff but I m sure knowledgeable posters on here will know alternative urban myths.
