Text speak shouldn't be banned mainly cause it's hard to get some Tweets on Twitter under 140 characters without using it.
Actually I do the tweets for the charity I work for. Edit: Although I do admit, it pains to me use text speak but sometimes it's a necessity unfortunately.
I don't think that they should be banned, because they make people **** up in amusing ways. A woman supposedly sent this is response to hearing about someone's bereavement: OMG sweetie, I am so so sorry for your loss, he is in a better place now LOL She believed that LOL stood for Lots Of Love.
I can do basic Text speak when on a phone. 'U' instead of 'you' etc... but I refuse to spk lyk a m0ng inn1t
From the dreadful standard of English grammar on these sites, I would respectfully submit that crayons should be redeployed.
