45 shots on target, 3 goals, one point and out in the first round - positives?

One big positive, Dychey knows we desperately need a striker and is probably working flat out to acquire one. Last nights match confirmed everything! I also genuinely believe that we are only two players away from having a promotion chasing team........

Pretty much everyone knows we need a striker... but finding one, and at a good price is a tough ask! When we had to pay what we did for Graham, people were screaming we have paid well over the odds! Unfortunately strikers do come at a premium, especiall 'on form' strikers. We don't really have the time to develop them this season, so need one to hit the ground running, and may have to pay out on it!

The 'best value' to be had for a striker may well be in the loan market, subject to obvious disadvantages over potential for recall etc etc.

The only problem I see with the loan market is, who will we realistically get? Loanees on offer are normally either a youngster that needs developing (we have plenty of those ourself) or someone who is surplus to requirements (who will quite possibly be on a large, Premiership wage so possibly out of our financial structure).

I would like to see Weimann come back, but can we for sure say he will be the goal-scoring hero we need him to be?

Copied and pasted my post from Why are oh so polite thread as it's more relevant here (sorry for the duplication)...

From the two games I've seen so far the concern I have is that last year we were creating far more guilt edged chances, for want of a better word, and you always felt that it was just a matter of time before we scored. So far this season, and I will emphasise SO FAR, we've had some pretty poor pot shots and have often been relying on defensive mistakes and uncertainty for a large amount of chances.

Put it this way, we will score a significantly larger number of goal mouth scrambles this year if we do not improve as we do not currently have the craft to unlock most defences. I really hope this will come good but early signs of our tactics do not bode well. A 20 a season striker would definately help but is far from the complete answer.

I am worried and concerned about the apparent lack of skill and creativity! 45 shots means nothing if you cant stick any away!! The fact that Doyley was one of our more potent threats says everything! How many of those 45 shots were gilt edged chances? That is a stat I would be more interested in! We lack quality and now we lack confidence! I t is a very dangerous spiral we have entered and we need to break it soon !

Mate there were hardly any gilt edge chances, there was half chances a plenty, we lacked height in the box. CD was swinging the ball over but no one on the end of them<yikes> We were also guilty of trying to beat a defender more than once, why I ask myself!

I think every team in the division could do with a '20-goal a season striker'. hence why anyone with a modicum of talent costs at least 250k, even if they are down in League 2. The problem is, we need to sort out the combinations of strikers. Iwelumo is an obvious target man, whilst Sordell and Deeney are more striker who make runs in behind or off the ball. Thus we need another target man, just a random name but what about John Parkin who is clearly frustrated at Cardiff after his latest Twitter outburst? Cheap, and fits the bill in terms of a target man. Then again, every poster on here would have his/her own idea of who we should get.
