No, he should have kept quiet, gone through the motions and taken the chop at the end of the season like his predecessors. Loyalty works 2 ways and the Pozzo's have not been known for this in the past.
Agree to an extent but how many of the sacked managers didn't either have something lined up (a la QSF) or were just not good enough? Obviously jokanovic was different but if his demands were as reported then its easy to see why he went.
He should have behaved professionally and acted like 99% of other managers. His actions damaged team morale, which was unforgivable. His actions will have put serious doubts in any other potential employers he might have hoped to impress.
Can't say I'm surprised at the news, just that it took this long, the writing has been on the wall for over a month
From the Mirror "The saddest part, as Silva collects his P45, is that his downfall was utterly needless. If he rejected Everton's unsolicited advances, and continued to build Watford into a top-half team in the Premier League, big clubs would inevitably have come back for him."
Lineker is such a prat. Gary Lineker ✔@GaryLineker Absurd decision, in my opinion, by Watford to fire Marco Silva after his first bad run. He’ll be snapped up very quickly and Watford will almost certainly get someone less talented. 12:42 PM - Jan 21, 2018 ✔@GaryLineker Watford lose managers or fire them every season. You don’t know that Silva wasn’t loyal. You’re assuming. He never walked out on the club. https://twitter.com/jayhkaria/status/955058964106039296 … 12:53 PM - Jan 21, 2018
This doesn't change the fact that he was a bad manager who refused to abandon his favoured system when it wasn't working. He had his head turned by Everton's interest, and started to believe he was the next Mourinho - the truth is that he was never big enough for them. Unfortunately his stubbornness grew along with his swollen ego.
It says a lot about GT that he was very nice about Lineker in his book despite all the snide digs he made. I agree that he is a prat
PERMANENT Watford manager.......Whats that ? They must be queueing up for the job.If a 2 year contracts the norm, you know you're only likely to be required for maximum half that time, get paid off for the rest and probably walk in to another job. How much have you paid out in compensation during your reign Pozzos - and still had to recruit a replacement ? If you have money to burn - send some our way ! Hope some of your apparent wealth goes to charity.
Everton have a history of turning managers' heads. They did it to us (Norwich) in the nineties with Mike Walker. We had a great team back then having just defeated Bayern Munich in their home stadium. We have never properly recovered from that episode
What everyone seems to have forgotten - including the clubs hierarchy - is the horrific injury/medical management situation. Removing MS merely obscures that element - which is convenient for the management. I think we have lost the best head coach since Pozzo's took over. Equally, and I appear to be unique, we are now just like any other club - the obsession is to stay in the EPL. I for one would have been happy to see (as I thought MS was) an appointment for the long term - including even a relegation. It happens, although I don't think it was likely. If the team starts winning with the existing fit lot, I'll admit to being quite wrong. If we get the players back, and start winning, I say MS was as good as he appeared to be at the beginning, and the club was wrong.
The Pozzos are the best owners the Watford faithful have had for a long time. They have brought, and bought, some of the best football players and football experiences since the GT days. We are one of the most financially stable clubs in all UK divisions, long may their ownership continue. The money they are spending is mostly from Sky, if they actually make any money from the club well good on them. Some people have short memories since 'red hat man'.
Just off to listen to some of Burt Bacharach's greatest songs Do you know the way to..... Goodison Marco What's it all about ... Gino Very few "Magic Moments" Make it easy on yourself.. and go Marco
Yeah very much agree. I do sometimes pine for the simpler days of Elton and GT but if we accept that no club has that any more then this as good as it gets. And having flirted with administration more than once financial stability isn't something we should really take for granted.
