A good wee read on Cyril Regis and the scum:

    https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sp...is-willie-johnston-6403627?service=responsive

In 1980, Cunningham was long gone, having moved to Real Madrid the previous year. Johnston, meanwhile, was asked to rejoin Rangers and, after doing so, what followed next might have seen a dismantling of Albion's Holy Trinity for good.

Johnston, then aged 33, was asked to recommend a striker who might be suitable for the Glasgow giants.

    He suggested Regis.

Thankfully, for all concerned - though obviously not Rangers - the move never happened. Regis was to remain in the Black Country for four more years.

In those less enlightened times, Regis’ race and religious beliefs - he was raised as a catholic - made it a non-starter in what was then a fairly intolerant and volatile landscape. Rangers weren't willing to embrace players who failed to fit their 'profile'.

He was a cracking player, big and strong and bags of skill. In today's game he'd have been worth a small fortune.
