Let's face it. Saints will be looking to sell, for a profit, in 1 or two seasons! I have given up in buying player named shirts. The club may as well, start selling them , with a Velcro name bar!!
I could see us making a signing for 25m but 30 does seem to be pushing it. He really does seem to be what we need though.
He is what lots of clubs need, that's going to be the problem. So we will negotiate a 30mill agreement with 55k/week wages and West HamSpurs/Everton/Brighton will swoop in and tell him we are losers and he can have 150k/week to play for them. Les will say he really tried but its difficult when we are a small club. Anyway we are going to be fine without new signings this window.
Ah, but you have missed Les's very cunning plan. Wait till late in the window and every other team has spent their money. Genius.
I get the feeling as per normal with saints, we may struggle today but I think the week ahead will help us forget the result today. Personally, think there'll be one signing for sure possibly 2. Late is how saints do business it's just the way our windows pan out mostly. I think it's partly down to the way we negotiate and play long ball. It may mean we miss targets but it also means we are a little more frugal in the expenditure.
Be interesting to see when they announce prices with things uncertain. If we go down there should be a dramatic reduction.
I have said it time and time again , saints don't move with the times regarding the transfer market. Our way was fine 5 years ago , but you simply can't Do that anymore , or you miss out , it's that simple . Wake up Les.
There's loads of good players in the 15-20 million bracket still. Like any transfer, regardless of fee, you have to scout them well.
What happened to Brighton having a fee agreed for £18m for Dembele of Celtic according to "sky sources" a few weeks ago? Surley with Brighton buying that striker from PSV he won't be going there.......if the fee is in the region of £18m we should be all over this.
It will be a lot cheaper for me as I always said this will be my final season as a STH come wind or shine. I expect it will be same anyway as there are more games in the championship
Reckon Promes net wages are well above what 55k p/w in the UK would bring, actually. We'd probably need to approach 100k a week to really make a run, alongside the nearly 30m in fee. Naturally, we're probably willing to offer 20m to Spartak and a juicy 60k to Promes.
I'll throw this question out there (apologies to the mods if this should be another thread). If we do not get any new blood in and are relegated because we don't sack a manager who is so clearly out of his depth - so what? Personally I enjoyed it in the Championship. Better fans, high quality football, and one league rather than a 3-in-1 league where you are up against multi-billionaires with little interest in football who are slowly destroying their clubs (though the fans of those clubs don't seem to realise it). So much as I am annoyed with how the club is being run, if we go down is it such a bad thing? I'll get my coat...
It bloody shouldn't be, on average our cheapest are the fifth most expensive in the division as it is. They'd struggle to shift 15,000 if that was the case.
I believe this is the thread you were looking for Jenny! https://www.not606.com/threads/gao-and-championship-football.357227/
