I remember many obscure to good United players, but that is because I support them and watched them play. Who remembers other teams players if they have achieved nothing?

 

A couple of years ago I decided to join in the fun on their "mouser thread", so there they are posting all their anti Liverpool and Scouse stuff and the stereotypical crap, so I had a pop at Spurs being crap since 1963 and them being Arsenal's lapdogs etc, then they spat their dummies out and turned nasty with references to more let's say serious insults.
They can dish it out on there but can't take it back.

 

Very true, I can't remember any Liverpool players since we won the league cup all those years ago.

 

He's remembered because he's by far the premier league's top ever goalscorer. The trophies he won have nothing to do with the individual records he set at club level.

What next, are people going to claim Okazaki is a better striker because he's won a league title and Kane hasn't? Like Man Utd fans claim Carrick is better than Gerrard because he's won more

Kane has achieved stuff though. How can you claim he's achieved nothing?

 

He's referring to club honours. Breaking records is awesome but players want silverware.

 

Tbf I'm more of a "football was invented before the Prem" kind of person, so looking at the bigger picture I'd sooner have had Hunt, Keegan, Rush, Fowler and Owen, great goals, great wins and trophies galore.
Shearer and Kane can break all the records they like and be rightly lauded for them but I'd still rather the players that made their goals win trophies, especially for us.

 

Bit of a miss-match there mate, Carrick controlled the centre of the field and won 5 PLs in his first 7 seasons. That was without the "best in the world" midfield and "world class" forwards that Gerrard had around him

 

So in 20 years time, people will be reminiscing about the great Ray Parlours, Andersons and Phil Nevilles of the world with their massive league title medal hauls and will have forgotten about the likes of Totti, Gerrard, Fowler etc.? Doubt it.

 

Shearer could've easily gone to Man Utd won a truck load and scored the same amount of goals. The fact that he rejected their money in favour of loyalty to his boyhood club should be applauded, not derided.

Who has derided Shearer?

 

Quite clear from the sneering toward Harry Kane on this thread for playing for his boyhood club that choosing to play for a team that aren't winning trophies every year is somehow a problem.

 

I'm not deriding him though, the same argument could be made about Gerrard for instance, but let's not pretend Newcastle didn't have to pay Shearer a **** load of money to knock Utd back and go to Tyneside, just like Gerrard got a mega-deal (and a few alleged threats) to stay at LFC.

 

Oh right, I suppose we all read things differently

 

By the way, no one is sneering at Harry Kane (he is a fantastic player, just pointing out that he needs to stamp his mark on football as a whole to be remembered in history.
