    sounds serious so....

Leicester have already intimated they would be happy with around 50m, so if someone offers like 60 or 70 they'll bite their hands off.

That is why Mahrez won't get 100m because i doubt they are going to hold out.

Lastly, players from big clubs who are performing generally cost more than players at smaller clubs because the big clubs tend to say no to selling at a cheaper price and because the player has shown he can handle the pressure. Being a shining light in a club at liverpool is not the same as being a shining light at leicester.

As for VVD going for that much, their just aren't any world class looking centre backs on sale. They are either all at the big clubs already and liverpool were mega desperate so they paid a stupid price for a player they wanted

In a way but mostly what the current club want for him. Roma wanted to take the piss and offer £30 mill (to replace Salah ironically). But they didn’t get him

It’s the only realistic answer about any player. If somebody pays it, that’s what he’s effectively worth.

Is Neymar worth €220mill? Or some 18yr kid worth €180mill?

    PSG obviously think so.

I believe the £50 mill figure was quoted not from the club but media. But that was in the summer after a crap season from the club and player. He’s back at his best right now and given transfers like the Neymar one and VVD since then, the goalposts have moved. That’s why the club are laughing off £50mill now.
And you’re right in what you say but this is why Liverpool have caused a whole new problem. It’s not big club to big club now, they splashed £75 mill on a player from a lesser side (no offence to our Southampton lads). So clubs of a similar size will now not bend over so to speak. I also don’t see what VVD has done to be world class tbh, flavour of the month that’s all

Not quite Bobby ... we wanted £50 million for him in the summer on the back of a poor season .... he has been very good indeed since Puel took over...hence Puel's bullish comments about keeping him .... and how much we might be asking for in summer 2018 ...

The thing is we don't HAVE to sell anyone these days ... we started with 2 strikers against Fleetwood in midweek who cost us a combined £55 million ... but can't make our first team line up ...<yikes> .... to put that into perspective in terms of our 'evolution' ... that's twice as much as our entire team cost the season we won the title <laugh>

maybe he is flavour of the month, but there is a lack of decent defenders compared to attackers and thats going to push the price up of defenders.

VVD was deemed as a very important target for all the top UK clubs so that pushes his price up even more in a bidding war.

As for Mahrez, theres not a need for him at any of the UK top clubs and theres a question mark about Mahrez's ability (as you say that 1 season has dented his reputation) so i just don't see him going for more than +60m let alone 100, even if he keeps this form up

... but Salah's at Chelsea or de Bruyne's can be ignored? <doh>

... I think you've just proven our point about how 'who' you play for influences evaluation ...

You make good points and I can see both sides. I just think, from Leicester’s point of view they can now point to other transfers and point out that as an attacking players who scores and assists bags, whose won individual honours as well as a league title he is worth more. I know they’re different players but Hazard has a bad season after winning the title and got back to his best afterwards and wasn’t then touted for the same kind of prices as Moussa bloody Sissoko! End of the day if nobody wants to pay the price Leicester want a transfer is unlikely. He’s still so under rated by those outside Leicester. It’s because of the attitude shown on this very thread that it’s who you play for not the player themselves

    talking about inconsistent season?

City pay big bucks for any players but KDB had smashed it for wolfsburg for 3 seasons i believe with a 6 month break back at chelsea without playing and i think there was a bidding war for him wasn't there?

As for Salah, that was a black mark against him, thats why he went for cheap as chip. 30 odd million in this market gets you an alex oxlade chamberlain that was leaving for free in 6 months time

I wouldn’t doubt his ability, Bobby, he’s a very good player. And, as Sky says, he’s terrific in the final third.

I think his off season coincided with him not getting the transfer he wanted and a general drop in Leicester’s form.

He’s a bit of a ‘luxury player’ for me. If you play the way we and L’pool do, for instance, he doesn’t put in a hard enough shift.

Having seen just about every game he's ever played for us in his career I can add this ... his form last season had more to do with both our general post title winning season malaise and the way teams set up to counter him than the red herring that he was sulking about not getting a transfer ...

The big difference now is that Puel has given him more of a free role than making him hug a touchline ... where teams could easily double (and sometimes triple) team him ... Puel even gave him the captaincy against Fleetwood in midweek ...

He really has come on, he tracks back an awful lot and gets up and down. There’s a pre conception of him that people think but that’s fine if it puts people off going for him! People write him off as being an average player because he plays for Leicester but that makes it more impressive. Anyone could score goals in a side with the players top teams possess. Would players like Salah be able to perform in Leicester side? Maybe not.

I seem to remember a certain Harry Kane couldn’t score for us <whistle>

That's always been the case though with big clubs and small clubs (the star players at these clubs). No one thinks that Richarlison is a world class outstanding talent even though he's the shining light as watford or that Gylfi Siggurdson was world class because he single handedly kept swansea up for 3 seasons

Anyone who thinks moussa sissoko is worth anything is sick in the head.

Mahrez has had 1 wonder season and if he keeps up what hes doing this year it will be his 2nd decent season (he wasn't spectacular and outstanding in the first season in prem, the championship or last year) and thats what counts against him.

VVD was outstanding for Celtic, then Southampton with maybe this season he's been poor.

As for Hazard, he's had how many bad seasons to how many oustanding seasons? That's why he's still worth a lot (and shining at a big club)

How is Mahrez's league medal of any use to who buys him next? He had a mare last season and will be judged on that more from a footballing perspective and he's obviously playing for a move this year.

    He wants that move.

I seem to remember that Pearson didn’t exactly give him that much chance to.

200 mill minimum....he is a winner, doesn't need ulterior motives to play his best. Any managers dream and managers pay for that. Plus he's not a 1 season wonder he's a 3 season wonder and counting....everyone knows this boy will always be turning up and delivering goals, barring injury.

I agree with the majority of that post....but the bit in bold ffs! There are plenty of players that play like him, and even more that are far better at doing what he does. He's a very good player, but he's not in that 'elite' bracket.

Even in the PL alone I wouldn't put him in the top 5 of that type of player.

On his day, Mahrez is unplayable. But he is too inconsistent to do it at a big club imo.
