Doubt we'll qualify. We've missed the boat with our current crop of players. I can see us slip back into the International abyss we were in 10 years ago
That's unfortunate Conman. Yee were making great strides there for a while. Sanchez leaving for Fulham at that time when yis were in a great position was a big blow. Qualification was within grasp then if I remember correctly. Worthy seems to have done a good job but seeing the team of kids he was forced to field at Landsdowne a few months ago looked worrying.
Reading FC chase QPR and Latvia defender GorkÅ¡s By Jonny Fordham August 24, 2011 Reading have been linked with a £900,000 move for Queens Park Rangers defender Kaspars GorkÅ¡s. The Latvia international is deemed surplus to requirements at Loftus Road, despite being an almost ever-present in their Championship winning season. GorkÅ¡s is also wanted by Southampton and a possible swap deal with their winger Jason Puncheon is also still up in the air. The 29-year-old would be a welcome addition to Brian McDermottâs squad who need a boost following their three defeats on the spin. Royals failed with a £700,000 bid for Millwall centre-back Paul Robinson on Monday and are desperate for an experienced centre-back to command their back four sooner rather than later. Good signing for Reading, most Saints fans wished that we keep going with the deal and got Gorkss instead of Fontaine because Gorkss wanted to join us.
He was told that he could leave by QPR. Saints we're interested and made a bid for him, it was accepted and he was travelling down to Southampton to discuss personal terms but then we pulled out to sign Fontaine.
yes, but as I said, it was rumoured this happened a week or two ago as well and he chnaged his mind. I don't know, just one of the zillions of rumours.
But when he was told by QPR that he could leave we went back in with the offer and Gorkss was all set to be signed.
QPRWarnock slams Saints over Gorkss deal Neil Warnock has hit out at Southampton for dragging their heels over the signing of Kaspars Gorkss – and revealed he is “delighted” Reading captured the defender. Southampton declared an interest in Gorkss after Rangers circulated his name for a transfer during the summer, but have also been on the trail of Bristol City’s Liam Fontaine. And as an agreement between the Saints and QPR finally seemed close, Reading manager Brian McDermott came in with a bid after having an offer for centre-back Paul Robinson rejected by Millwall. The Royals promptly signed Gorkss on a three-year contract in a deal worth around £900,000. “We had Southampton messing about for three weeks and to be honest I’d had enough of that,” said Warnock. “Brian McDermott was magnificent when he spoke to me. Then within five minutes he was talking to the player, within two hours was having a meal with him, and then he signed him. That’s how to do business. “At Southampton we had a chairman who was talking to us for weeks and weeks, and I’m delighted Kaspars has now gone to Reading. It’s a good club.” R’s boss Warnock, who hopes to seal the signing of Joey Barton in the next 24 hours, insists he had no doubts about letting Gorkss go despite Rangers’ limited defensive options. Bradley Orr and Kieron Dyer have picked up injuries, while Clint Hill is suspended and QPR were unable to recall Peter Ramage from his loan at Crystal Palace. But Warnock said: “Kaspars knew he wasn’t going to be in my plans. I spoke to him and said: ‘Look, you’ve been fantastic for me and I think if you can get a good club for three years, this is the time to do it.’ “He did great for me and I thanked him for that. He’s a fabulous person as well as a good player.” iReader http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/warnock-slams-saints-over-gorkss-deal/
Old news. We're not bothered. It only covers the Gorkss deal. It doesn't cover the Jason Puncheon part, which was the proper sticking point, and largely the reason for our Chairman to be talking to QPR in the first place. Have a good season.
