Son should get a bonus for promoting THFC good feeling above and beyond the call...in his third language.
Yet didn’t rate a mention from commentators and media - except an almost jokey reference to forwards tackles. When you look at the **** thrown at Dele over the De Bruyne incident there’s no comparison and just confirms that incidents become a point of focus only if they serve the greater narrative. They’re all bastards, anyway!!
He was very lucky to avoid a red, in my opinion. Already booked and it was just blatant and unnecessary.
I shouldn’t give a flying **** about Walnut or where he has ended up, but I would have thought if Southampton were in the mix then that would surely have been a better option for him - a place he has history with and would prevent having to uproot his family to Mouserland. (His support of the red side of Liverpool is really going to help his assimilation into the hearts of the Toffees fans!) Can only have been the ££ carrot offered that determined his decision, but he is hardly going to be on the breadline after so many years earning big bucks, but delivering little at the Woolwich Arena. Maybe that sums him up though: happy to just grow his bank accounts for 12 years whilst wasting what talent he had, being an occasional performer at Arsenal. Oh well, maybe Soton weren’t actually interested and that was his only offer
Amusing that in Skys piece on the Walcott transfer they speak of Sams great faith in Walcott, as shown as he recalled him to the England squad, of course he did only pick 1 squad and didn't have enough faith to put him the starting line up for that match in Slovakia - though he did give him18 mins and maybe his last England cap!
To be fair to him, despite him being a massive, massive ****er, he may have looked at what's going on at both clubs. Everton appear to have some financial ambition and are in the top half of the table and pushing for a Europa place. Southampton just sold their best centre-half for massive money and haven't replaced him. They're a point above the relegation zone and the manager isn't well liked with the fans. There's only six points between them, I'll grant you, but I can see why he might pick Everton.
Fair points and you may be right, but I think you’re being too kind, PNP - his lack of ambition to develop his career over the past 4/5 years particularly, as he has become increasingly marginalised at Arsenal says a whole lot more than any last minute epiphany. If he was honestly looking to make that step, he should have been looking away from the Emirates when it became clear he wasn’t in Wengers central plan (whatever that is??? lol). Once one of the brightest starlets in the English game, a net return of 45 England caps from 12 years in the PL is also hardly an endorsement of his desire to improve. And it’s not as if there has been many other special talents around over that period.
Wenger seemed to want him to play a central attacking role just before he signed a new contract, but I agree that he made a mistake in signing up. Injuries held him up somewhat, but he didn't start often enough and it wasn't clear what his role was supposed to be when he did. I'm not sure how Allardyce is going to use him either, though. A midfield diamond with Walcott and Tosun up top and Rooney or Sigurdsson in behind, perhaps? Their squad seems absolutely massive now.
One terrible thing to come out of the Everton game is how various bloggers have decided that, if Sutton and Shearer was SAS and Messi/Suarez/Neymar was MSN, that means our attacking quartet shall henceforth be known as DESK
Fenerbahce have Fernandao and Soldado, so all they need to do is sign Falcao and wait until the mistake they've made...
