I think we're all really disappointed by the MK Dons game yesterday, and it is only 1 game, but it seems to give ill omens for the strength of our bench. But whilst some players have been disappointing for me (Drury, Russell Martin, Ayala, Fox, Holt) I thought I'd point out that some of our players have been fantastic from what we've seen of them so far (Also it's very early in the season, so these guys can turn it round); Ruddy: I personally never doubted that Ruddy would be a good first choice keeper, but he's been excellent all through pre-season and the games he's played against Wigan and Stoke. de Laet: Has been phenomenal! He was brilliant in pre-season, brilliant against Wigan (The robbed in possession penalty mistake was a mistake but out the box!) and he even scored a goal against Stoke too! Fergie has plenty of other good and young defenders at United and from what little I've seen of de Laet I really want to keep him. Naughton: Rusty has been very disappointing both defending and going forwards compared to last season but Naughton has done the job bombing forwards and he's also defended very well too, against Stoke he was clearing so many of their crosses and balls in you'd of thought he was a centre-back. Tierney: I wasn't sure how Tierney would manage but he has done very well so far, good going forwards as always and not put a foot wrong in defence either. Johnson: The Leeds fans told us he was awful, but I'm pretty sure most of us imagined he would be a decent midfield enforcer, and he is just that! Would be nice if he'd score a few of his long shots he is famous for too, but his defending along justifies his place. Bennett: Bennett has been great he's been causing chaos running forwards, he's very quick and a good crosser, I have no doubts he is Premier League material. Morrison: Holt seems to be doing his usual slow starts, but Morrison is running back and forth all game, every game and forcing defenders into mistakes. It's a shame he ends up crossing the ball to Jackson all the time rather then getting a chance himself! When we have him with another striker firing all cylinders it can only be good news.
This all seems sensible to me! Crofts seems to have played well too i would say. Bring on chelsea which will be the acid test to the reaction to last night - we have a habit of putting in a good performance in the league (even if that means we lose on Sat but still play well) right after a cup exit.
