I'm probably going to get some stick for this as many (including me) saw Gabbi as the next big thing when he arrived last season. However this season his workrate has been well short of that displayed by Long or Austin and 3 goals in 20 appearances on the pitch does not suggest a striker that can save us in a relegation battle. That's about the same goal to minute ratio as JWP by the way! Some have suggested that we adapt our style to bring Gabbi into play. Do we really want to embark on yet more tinkering given our current situation? Others have suggested we miss a Pelle or Rickie who with back to the goal can collect and lay the ball off for others. Gabbi can't or doesn't suit that role (incidentally Sam Gallagher does...). So maybe the parting of the ways would suit both parties. Like others, if he does leave I would of course wish him well for the future (and hope there is a plan to get a good replacement in).
I thought Gabbi was the answer to our prayers when he arrived and, although he made a contribution, it is obvious he is not either the player we thought or need now. Long has shown himself to be able to contribute even when not scoring himself....just as he looked when playing with Mane and Pelle. I fully understand why MP2 has chosen to play him. P.s. As for changing things to suit Gabbi, he is here to play for us, not for us to play for him.
Called it at the time he was our Jelavic/Cisse/Zaki. Started brilliantly but would fade away and not really contribute anything after a fast start.
It's pretty laughable that any of us really knows who pulls the strings behind the scenes. Personally I don't think any one individual does. I suspect Reed, Wilson, Hale and MP to be all involved in transfers - probably others too (e.g. Toby Steele and Scott Waters). But that doesn't help when we want to point the finger at an individual of course!
All this was well known at the time of the takeover. Gao wasn’t allowed to take any money out of China so had to raise the cash to pay Katharina elsewhere. She retained an equal say (according to Beef) until she was happy that Markus’s legacy was safe. What’s changed to prompt her to resign from the board is anyone’s guess, but presumably she still holds her 20%, as I don’t see why or how Gao has raised the extra dosh. If, as some of us suspect, he’s asset-stripping, it makes no sense to put more money into the club in the form of the extra £44 million. If, on the other hand, he’s in it for the long term, where is the money for transfers etc. which the club needs to survive in the PL coming from?
I’d wager he couldn’t raise the total capital at the time, hence the retained 20% and has now released the last money so she has gone. If I’m honest, we are just a vehicle to allow them to move money around, so is plausible the couldn’t give a **** what league we are in, as the moving money piece could dwarf the initial investment, taking into account the number of major players who were likely involved in the financing.
Some rumour going round on the Norwich board that Spurs are after Maddison for £20m (I know a couple of people mentioned him on here as a potential target for us)
The board changes that have now officially gone through were done in the Summer well before the takeover was complete.
I think that was what Branfoot thought about Le Tissier. Every player has strengths and weaknesses and I believe that you have to play to your best players strengths.
Yeah it's extremely poor management to consistently leave talents like Gabbiadini & Boufal on the bench while starting Long and Davis. While Long can stretch defences, it's not exactly been something that's gotten us much success. We have a team very capable of playing great football, Lemina, Hojbjerg, JWP, Tadic, Boufal & Gabbiadini are more than good enough to play through/around teams. But no, we insist on lumping it into the channels to Long, or getting the fullbacks to aimlessly cross the ball in to no one.
Would explain why the Club has been a rudderless ship since then! 12 Jan 2018 Termination of appointment of Katharina Maria Mathilde Liebherr as a director on 12 January 2018 12 Jan 2018 Appointment of Mr Leslie Arnold Reed as a director on 12 January 2018 12 Jan 2018 Appointment of Mr Martin Semmens as a director on 12 January 2018
Gabbiadini is not LeTiss. The latter was capable of grabbing a game by the neck and winning it for you on his own. You have decided Gabbi is our best player, why?
That isn’t how we have played the last 2 games, the Fulham game and at least the first half against Watford. Long’s pace down the wings working in conjunction with JWP and Tadic has been more effective than any attacking combination we’ve tried this season. I’d like to see Boufal and Gabbiadini brought in sooner in the game but why throw away something that actually works?
So it worked against a Championship defence (1 goal), and an awful Watford defence for 45 minutes? It's not exactly proving its worth. Have we tried a lineup of Gabbiadini, Boufal, Tadic & JWP? Answer: No, maybe for 5 minutes at the end of a game. At home, against teams around us we should play our best 11 players.
I’m not defending Pellegrino in not playing Boufal and Gabbiadini more, and I agree that the 4 you suggest could work as well, but you can only play against what you’re up against, and we at least dominated Watford for a half. We’ve done worse against worse teams than them this season.
