It is a complicated situation further exasperated by our managements failure to tie him down or let him go in summer or the year before. This in turn has given Sanchez and his agent far too much power to pull the strings. So far, this is how i see whats happening. Sanchez wants to go to City but his wage demands are too high and we want more money and a player replacement. United are offering more and a possible player exchange but Sanchez doesn't want to go to United. We prefer the United deal as we get more money and a better chance of getting a replacement from United or on the market. Chelsea are the latest to step up interest but this could be a ploy to destabilise the United bid, however, out of the two, Chelsea need Sanchez more than United at the moment. Lastly, there is a real outside chance that Sanchez stays until the summer and gets more money and to the destination he wants. Are we better off keeping Sanchez? Maybe if he goes through a purple patch and gets us 4th place. This would justify the free transfer as we would get money from CL qualification. But our real problem has always been no Cazorla. This has hurt us in the long run and cost us a lot of points. Whatever way you look at it, we're up against it this season due to poor preparation from the management, again.
I have no problems with Sanchez to be honest. Yes, it is annoying when he is not playing and the team is suffering. I don't blame him at all. I blame the management for creating uninspiring conditions for the players. This has spread through the whole club. There is a lack of ambition all over the place. When RVP was making demands of Wenger and decided he was leaving due to a lack of ambition. These professionals especially at their peak want to make the best out of their performance level. We haven't shown the ambition to be a top tier club. How can you let contracts run down and call it ideal. Won't be surprised if Lacazette is regretting coming. There's nothing attractive to top level player at AFC. Can someone who thinks otherwise point anything out, cos I can think of any. A change of manager is so needed right now. Because if we were to go for recruiting up and coming players we don't have the right coaching system to get the best out of them. If we decide to go big and spend on top wages for big players we don't have the right man in charge to get the best out of them. We won't finish in top 4 so we might as well cut Wenger loose now and get Ancelotti in! The man is becoming an enemy of progress.
Sanchez is annoying me by trying to push for a lower transfer move to City. His attitude on the pitch recently. And the fact it seems to be all about the mega money contract to him. I understand it but think it's causing issues at the club. In terms of players coming to Arsenal. We are a London club which is a draw to players families. We pay good wages compared to most clubs. Top players know they will play most games rather than end up benched half the time like at clubs like City. And currently we are winning trophies often even though they aren't the big ones. For some players Wenger is still a pull too, for others I'd imagine he isn't. We are still an attractive club we just need to sort things out before that stops being the case. CL football is key to this.
Apparently now Sanchez is furious with Arsenal that they failed to accept City's bid, forcing them to pull out, as his heart was set on going there. Like with Lukaku, looks like my lot have popped their heads up at the last minute with a half arsed bid, but I still fully expect him to see out his contract with Arsenal now, and sign a pre-contract with City to join them in May, unless United and/or Chelsea offer him enough cash incentives to win him over. P.S, I am hearing that the "City not willing to meet his wage demands" reason is bullshit, and that his move collapsed purely because Arsenal refused to accept a bid lower than United's, which is fair enough. City weren't prepared to match United's offer, and Arsenal want the best deal, so I cannot blame them. Sanchez is being a petulant tool imo.
It's annoying as a fan but can you really blame him? If any of us would be given the choice, we too would go for the more desirable place. Unfortunately we forfeited a lot of power to Sanchez and he is only doing what any normal person would do, hold out for a deal that suits him. Sadly this is the way things are. That's why it's the duty of the management of any business to safeguard it's position against any eventuality. We didn't do that so are suffering in consequence of that.
Probably is the case. He wanted to go to City in the summer and we blocked it, and we did the same thing in Jan, it can only piss him off even more. Seriously, my club is a shambles, i expect heads to roll for this debacle. We had enough warnings and should have acted, instead we've got ourselves in a right mess. Also as an attacking player, playing under Maureen would be my least favoured destination of the top teams.
Aye, but can you really blame Arsenal. The way they see it, a player doesn't get to dictate where he goes, and City were unwilling to match United's offer. It's a bit dangerous playing that game when the player has only 5 months left on his contract though, but it never should have gotten to that stage in the first place. Arsenal probably should have just relented and took the money City were offering, but since when did you know Arsene to be anything other than stubborn af.
IMO on the pitch Sanchez still tries but a cloud has been created by the club not sorting the contract issue out and not selling him. He's not superhuman. We would be naive to get the best version of anybody if you have made them unhappy. Top players won't want to play in a team that can't defend and get humiliated often. The "good football" is gone. As far as Wenger pull, I think that is gone. For some he may be a deterrent. His lack of decisiveness keeps costing us acquiring top talent early, putting off players cause we are not showing how bad we really want them (watching players for years and years till they get too expensive, not paying asking prices, not on top of extending contracts of existing players, etc.). With Wenger we will only attract players in it just for the money. Where is the incentive to be better, to win! If you're going through a bad spell, you will play regardless. Apart from money nothing is attractive for any player who wants to be great.
Players are not slaves. They have a say where they go. Sanchez is 100% right if he sees City as the best place to enjoy his football, and they want him. He might as well see out his contract and go there for free. We only have ourselves to blame for being incompetent.
Not saying they are slaves, but you cannot let them just call all the shots, otherwise why even have a contract, if they can dictate where and when they leave and how much for. I agree though that Arsenal should have just took whatever City were offering and let him leave, then reinvested that money back in to the team. Hell they probably should have just taken the £60m City were offering in the summer.
they are slaves. They work for who they are contracted to. If the club doesn't think City are offering enough, either he accepts United or he slaves away at arsenal for another 5 months
First, they left it late before opening contract talks. If you value a player highly you don't let their contract reach the last year. He says he's not signing, common sense says they sell. At least get the most out of your incompetence. At this late stage, the player can have more of a say on where he ends up. It's not like he has to wait years (a lot can change). He has a few months to go to where is actually wanted for free. If he goes to wherever (for money or sporting reasons) is his prerogative. He can decide "you won't let me go for £60M (outrageous) to where I want and am wanted. Everyone wins here! Why would I go to where I don't want when I can go for free and you get nothing. Arsenal incompetence all over the place.
Exactly, thats the whole point of a contract, to legally ensure both parties adhere to agreed terms. Players these days want the HUGE financial benefits that a long term, ironclad contract brings, but always bitch and moan when it comes to upholding their end of the deal, ie ****ing playing for your contracted club and not being a disruptive ****rag.
I agree that it is stupid of Arsenal to play these games when his contract runs out in May....as soon as Sanchez refused United/Chelsea and said "No I want City", Arsenal should have just let him go.
It is so obvious that we have midfield issues. Being linked with the likes of Aubameyang, Lemar, Mahrez, Mikhi is all well and good. Sanchez and Theo need to be replaced. There are players like Ndidi, Nzonzi and Seri that we could be seriously looking at long term better our MF.
This is what makes me realise that the current management and coach haven't got a ****ing clue. Our midfield has been toilet yet we're looking for a ****ing striker?!??! Are we surprised that we're 6th place when you have these incompetents in charge.
