Nice try Archers. You ain’t kidding me supporting Saints is just a hobby to you For me it is not just a hobby, it is a part of me. Work colleagues, customers, suppliers, friends, family.... random people on a bloody train or plane, they all find out I support Southampton. They all ask me about Southampton because that’s part of me. I think I’m not the only one either. I’m not one to lose my **** when things go bad, so I can’t be accused of having things out of perspective, but SFC is a huge part of me.... it’s like a gene in me.
On the not caring debate that was happening earlier I'm in the middle. I don't let it ruin my weekend etc. now like I used to and I think it's when my lad was born when I realised that in the grand scheme of things it's not all that important. I still surprise myself at times though just how much it means to me and to be blunt, the day I stop caring is the day I stop going. You can't describe that emotional attachment and if I lost that I'd probably lose interest in top level football altogether... It simply wouldn't be as interesting or worth the money and time without that emotional connection.
Does it make me weird that I actually enjoy watching other teams when we play them at St Mary’s too? I love football, and it’s actually a pleasure (sort of) to watch teams like City and Liverpool (ugh) this season. I look forward to those games at St Mary’s, particularly when we (used to) sometimes pull out a surprise result.
Not weird just different (to me), I'm largely not fussed who we're playing, I just wanna see Saints I do get your point though.
I kind of get the idea of popping down to a local non league side to watch “proper” football, but ultimately I want to see the best players. Kevin De Bryne & David Silva were superb at St Mary’s last season and if we manage to crawl ourselves out of our current Black hole for this seasons match to be a dead rubber, then we could be in for a treat.
Let's buy a business and starve it of its primary revenue stream - said no entrepreneur ever. I am amazed that this thread went past the OP. Bonkers. Utter bonkers. Lets buy Ferrari but stick Vauxhall stickers on the product. Sorry St K but wow.
No problem dude, but please dont be rude. Just a wacky theory put out there to discuss. If you had read the post properly you would have seen the comment "is this even viable?" Stemmed from a conversation I was having with a work colleague in regard the apparent lack of financial input from Gao and our thoughts concerning him.
It was possible not that long ago to 'asset strip' and make money at it. I don't think that it is now, though; Gao bought in after the price of PL teams skyrocketed following the , and recouping 200m is one of the only things more difficult than making a consistent profit in the Football League. Now, if you already owned a team from a point prior to the jump in revenues, you could probably get away with it. Blackpool certainly found a way, until recently getting their comeuppance.
Wait til your lad is going with you regularly.... Oh and I’m not sure it’s a “not caring debate” as I’m not suggesting anyone doesn’t care.
I get both of this. I’d watch Saints anywhere, anytime. I go because I love Saints. However, I’ll go and watch any game wherever I am if I can’t get to Saints. If I’m Away with work and there’s a game I’ll watch it..... I’m talking live at the ground, not on TV.
Yeah I can't wait for that... Gonna risk his first game at the beginning of next season I think. And yeah I know you didn't, poor choice of phrase from me really just responding to Saintmagic saying he doesn't care as much and had lost some passion etc.
I felt like this as a kid, it was Southampton morning, noon and night. I just feel that when you get older other stuff becomes more important and supporting a football team does become a bit of a hobby. The fact you don't lose your **** when things are going bad says to me you treat it exactly as a hobby.
