Alan Shearer was having a chuckle about it on MOTD2, last night saying something like “Good luck with getting players to turn up for friendly internationals, especially as Giggs didn’t turn up for one during a 9 year period”.
Interesting to see comments from Louis van Gaal, saying that he rejected the Belgium manager’s job out of spite because he wanted to make United carry on paying off the rest of his contract, after “the way they had treated him”. I guess there was a clause saying that they would stop paying him once he took another job.

Yeah, not wrong. I spent the last 16 months or so as the designated reporter for the Arsenal Women's team and they deserve better than this ****. Yet again, The FA tacking women's football onto the men's game rather than paying it the expert attention it deserves from the people who actually know about it. And they wonder why the game isn't growing as they'd like...

The women are the 5th-ranked country in the world, medalists in the last two Olympics, and consistent features of the later rounds of major tournaments. The men are currently one spot above the Faroe Islands in ranking, it's been 20 years since they even reached the final qualifying round for the World Cup (they finished dead last in the Hexagonal with 5 goals scored to 20 against), and the next World Cup goal they score will be the first. We are in many respects a leader in embracing the women's game, but it turns out that -- when push comes to shove -- we'd rather see if we can elevate the men to a position of mediocrity than see the women to the top of the world.
Yep, you're referring to the first VAR decided goal. The argument for not having VAR bit the dust right there. You can make a quick decision, and it can be wrong, or you can make a slightly slower decision and it can be the right one. Which is it to be.? And yes, 11 months too late.
