Difference there is, most people will think twice about doing it in Egypt but really don’t care in the UK.
Load of rubbish. Maximum sentence is 14 years in prison The offence banding is wide ranging. There are Policing guidelines and Sentencing guidelines. The Police can issue a caution at the lowest level of possession Let’s take your post, dealing large quantities of class C drugs in or around a school, what is the sentence? https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.u...led-drug-with-intent-to-supply-it-to-another/
See if you find a single example of anyone being sent to prison in the UK just for dealing Tramadol. I haven’t checked, but I doubt anyone has been.
What I am saying is that as she was found guilty for the so called crime she has committed she got a light sentence in Egyptian terms. The fact that she will only spend 1 year and 2 months in prison is a lot less that she could have expected.
It’s your post that has to be substantiated not mine, you post as if it is a fact when actually it’s nothing of the sort. The facts are in the attachment.
I was responding to Howden's claim that you could get more than three years for the offence in the UK, I don't think there's any chance at all of any custodial sentence for having 300 Tramadol here, do you?
I said nothing about tramadol, I said drug smuggling. If you smuggle drugs into the UK you'll get more then 3yrs. Tramadol in UK drug terms is very very low down I agree. But so is weed in lots of countries....try smuggling a large amount Inti the UK and you'll get more then 3yrs
Of you course you'd get more than three years if you had 50 kilos of heroin, but we were discussing if we thought 3 years inside for carrying 300 Tramadol was excessive.
No I don’t. The guidelines are there for everyone to read. The fact is that the maximum for possession of tramadol is more than 3 years and that is all I had to prove.
Actually, you haven't, the maximum for 'possession' of Tramadol without a prescription is up to 2 years in prison. Only dealing Tramadol could get you longer and even then that's only in theory, in reality, it's not considered serious enough to warrant a custodial sentence (unless you had a lorry load of the stuff).
You moved the goal posts. Possession forms part of dealing and the maximum is 14 years. You have a point about convictions and I do not disagree with your view about what would happen to her over here. If she was charged in Hull, the chances are that it would not warrant any more coverage than a paragraph in HDM.
Meanwhile, the "husband/boyfriend/gigolo" or whoever, is apparently distancing himself from the saga, saying he didn't ask her to bring the pills or know that she was going to do so. There seems more caring on here for her! The parents are portraying her as completely innocent, naïve beyond belief, she is coming across as thick as ....something definitely not adding up here. She could just have posted the pills and saved herself all this grief and us 20 odd pages! (Note - not that I condone any form of drug trafficking!)
