I have never called a Sunderland manager, even when things were going bad for Keane. But you have to start to question Bruces ability. How long have we know we needed a LB, since our twice player of the season left. Knew that we needed a striker after Bent left, but spends £8 million on potential, not a proven striker, WHICH IS WHAT WE NEED.

In a sense played with 8 midfielders last night, that includes Kieron LB and Elmo RB.

When it was a perfect opportunity to start Dong Won and Wickham, to give them some valuable experience in the side. So if we get nothing against Swansea, Chelsea at home, then Stoke at home. Which i can see happening What do we do???

Stoke game is the 17th Sept, which is obv way after the transfer window closes, so do you let Bruce go and seek MON, who is a 'Sunderland Fan' answer is YES.

Has proven he can win things, lead Villa to top 6 three seaons in a row and took them to a league cup final losing to Man Utd.

He has better man management, better tactical awareness, and would be so much up for all matches than Bruce.

Quinn always shows patience, however will this patience with Bruce be a detriment to the club. Never thought i would say this after 3 games, but think maybe Bruce hasnt got the confidence of the squad, and that O'Neill would give them the kick up the backside they need and maybe sell/strengthen in the January.

Fear we may be this seasons equilevant of West Ham,

I think near enough anyone would take O'Neill as a manager if the chance arose.

Not sure after what he did at Villa - he left them in the lurch after being refused money (after a net spend of about 60m I believe) and dropped tha fans in it - his style of football is no more pleasing on the eye than Bruce either - very direct style (Watching Leicester and Villa I saw them play the long ball almost every time and look for players to run onto it or the big man to head on)

It may be effective but it certainly isn't pretty

"Better man management than Bruce" The Aston Villa players had a party when he left and that's a fact

FFS newton - read what I wrote - I stated it is no more pleasing on the eye than Bruce's - I didn't say either was better but from what I've seen, neither are more pleasing to watch from what I've seen of MON's teams

I disagree about MON leaving Villa in the lurch, he left becasuse the board didn't share the same ambition he did. He had three 6 place finishes and knew it needed that little bit more investment to have a proper crack at the top 4. On top of this he lost two key figures in 2 consecutive years (Barry, Milner) He probably knew the club would sanction the sales of Young and Downing. What's the point of trying to build a house if someone keeps taking your bricks.

The players probably had a party when he left because he pushed them in training and wouldn't settle for less than 100%. Evident after his departure their lacklustre and relegation beckoning season untill the board spent £18m on a goalscorer.

I'm not sure on this one, good OP by the way. <ok>

Is MoN a better manager than Bruce, most definitely yes.

My problem is his last few months at Villa, and of course we don't know exactly what was going on there.
There seemed to be a lot of petulance.
We may find out the truth in his autobiography of course. :p

I agree up to a point about he played hoof ball at times.
But he used it in games where it was tactically viable, and with players who were more than capable of either running onto said ball or actually controlling it.

Plus I agree with most of what parker said. <ok>

I would have neither Bruce or O'Neil, there must be a reason why no-one has given Martin O'neil a job

I'd be looking at Mark Hughes.

Wonderful job with the Wales national side, and a superb, ball playing attack minded Blackburn team.

Did little wrong at City, indeed they were progressing very well in my eyes, and he didn't deserve the chop.

Exellent continuation at Fulham last season, really pulled them together, first time he's had a team struggle in management first half of the season, showed he had the skills to pull it together and ended the season flying.

    He's the man for me.

MON is a whining little cock end.

What have I been saying about having a go at fellow SUNDERLAND supporters? FFS! :p

Mind you I'm starting to doubt whether he was this big fan or he wouldn't have knocked us back before would he?

    Ha ha.

To be fair to him MR, i think he knocked us back when his wife was ill, so mitigating circumstances, and i think he would be mad keen this time.

I just don't think he's the right man, i think Hughes is perfect, i'm sure some will disagree, but i genuinely see his managerial record as unmarked, even the City sacking was bullshit, and no slur on the man.

Ex-United as well, we all know SAFC love ex-United...

Unfortunately, Bruce aint gone,,,,,,,,,,,,yet. If and when it happens, MON would be a good shout, as would SPARKY, and Im sure there are more managers out there that we have missed out on, but as I said Bruce aint gone.

Well thats rubbish. A small minority did. The players that had been a wee bit frozen out because they were not good enough. I believe one of those was Curtis Davies who was eventually shipped out by Houllier as he recognised he wasn't good enough for the first team as well. I'd like to hear what Ashley Young and Downing think of the man that brought them on from lesser teams and inspired the form that has led to them going on to two of the biggest teams in England.
