Again I agree generally but not even sure it needs to be done for all goals unless just for consistency as most goals there’s absolutely no issues with. I guess like you say in the 30 secs to regroup maybe. The only other thing I think is red cards as they can be game changing if there’s doubt

Spurs' second goal against Everton last night was offside. Neither the ref or the lino spotted it, but it was clearly offside. In the time it takes to regroup the fourth official could review that goal and alert the ref that he'd spotted the offside.

I don't think it's an onerous task for the fourth official to watch 5 seconds of play whilst the teams are celebrating/regrouping

I’m not referring to yesterday in fact straight reds that we never seem to get (ours are always double bookings) so it’s a general point. Maybe let it go yourself.
It’s the only thing other than contentious goals or penalty decisions that could do with reviewing

I agree, someone watching as it happens will often see it right away and inform the ref in his ear, may not even need to stop play

Yep, if the fourth official was reviewing it from the sidelines then 99% of the time the ref wouldn't even have to stop play or go and look at it himself.

If cricket and rugby are anything to go by, it won't be seconds. That's my main gripe.

Rugby commonly involved whether a try has been scored or not. Many tries involve a dozen bodies crashing over the line and the ref can’t see if the ball has been grounded or not. Hence the VAR. That doesn’t happen in football. Most other decisions are given pretty quickly.

The thing with Rugby is that it's a stop and start game anyway, so the reviews don't necessarily interrupt the flow of the game. In football I think it could make the game disjointed.

They're poor comparisons too as they're sports with natural breaks.

The idea of waiting a minute or so after every goal to celebrate utterly sickens me tbh. It takes the emotion and passion out of it.

Imagine... Late winner in FA Cup semi final 'YESSSSS!!!! Oh wait let's stand around for a couple of minutes while we see if it's given..... Oh it has been, jolly good. That kind of ruined the moment though'.

**** that ****, it's clear what will happen, it will go to far and ruin the game.

Union and cricket are far slower games than football. Therefore, IMO, not as many contentious decisions to deal with.

It is. But often the flow of the game gets stopped when a touch judge thinks he’s seen foul play. So, they go back and check it.

It’s cut a lot of the sneaky violence from the game too. That used to be commonplace back in my day. They know they’ll get pinged nowadays.

That's why the 4th official should review the goal as the teams regroup and alert the ref only if he sees an infringement. There needn't be any interruption on the pitch at all.

Far more in rugby, IMO. It’s a full on contact sport with all kinds of stuff going on.

Most of the "skullduggery" that you're alluding too, doesn't get picked up by VAR. players are cited and video evidence is then used to determine what went on and if any punishment is needed, after the game.
Absolutely no problem with that, unfortunately our FA has shown time and time again, they have no backbone.

Let me be clear, I'm not fully against as long as they keep it to minimal decisions. What I don’t like is the huge assumption that it will make everything perfect and it will be easy to implement when there's so many variables.

I'd also like to see as many rules made so they're less subjective where possible otherwise you'll still get inconsistencies.

Offside rule for example with the interfering with play, make it so if you're in the penalty box you're offside regardless. In my book anyone in the box is interfering with play anyway.

Me and nsis have had this VAR debate so many times <laugh>

You lot are ****ed when VAR comes in ... especially when you play Burnley <whistle>

On a serious side ... each team should get 2 appeals per game. If they get an appeal right then they keep them, if they get it wrong they lose it. They can appeal any decision.
This way there will not be nonsense appeals and if there is a dodgy call that goes against a team and they can not challenge it then it is their fault and their fault alone for 2asting their appeals.

    Just no :steam:

Do not want to see any of this appeal rubbish. Just let the 4th official review goals and pens when the ball is dead anyway after the whistle has gone. If there's anything the ref hasn't spotted then he can alert him via his earpiece.

Yeah not keen on appeals. It will just be abused as a time wasting / momentum killing tactic. The decision to review must stay with the officials imo.

Also I'd like it to be that it must be blatantly wrong to overturn the decision, none of this 'well on the 6th angle in super slow mo it does appear to brush his arm slightly' bollocks. Only if a clear mistake has been been made should it be changed.
