Big Match Preview: Norwich City (home)
    Friday, January 12th 2018

City return to Sky Bet Championship action this weekend, following successive fixtures in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Mid-table Norwich City are the visitors to Ashton Gate on Saturday (3pm kick-off) who are four games unbeaten in all competitions - their last defeat coming before Christmas.

Lee Johnson's side meanwhile are searching for their first win of the calendar year.

The two sides drew 0-0 at Carrow Road earlier in the season, so will there be goals at the Gate this time around?

    Here’s a look at tomorrow’s opponents.

    HOW DID THEY GET HERE?
The Canaries are no strangers to the Premier League and weren’t far from making their return to England’s top tier at the first time of asking last season. They missed the play-offs by ten points and currently find themselves floating in midtable.

Formed in a Norwich café 116 years ago, the club were considered professional rather than amateur and they joined the Southern League.

As the club grew in size, it moved from its original ground and joined the Football League’s third division in 1920.

The club eventually moved to Carrow Road in the mid 1930s and enjoyed some of their best years following the Second World War – notably winning the League Cup, beating Matt Busby’s Manchester United en route to the FA Cup semi-finals and gaining promotion to the first division.

The Canaries were one of the original Premier League sides when it formed in 1992 and they finished third at the end of the campaign – their highest ranking to date.

They share a local rivalry with Ipswich Town, who they have played more than 100 times in what is dubbed the East Anglian Derby.

Daniel Farke is hoping to achieve promotion at the first attempt
MEET THE GAFFER – DANIEL FARKE
Farke played the majority of his career with SV Lippstadt 08, with whom he had three spells, playing his whole career in the lower levels of German football.

The former frontman was appointed as the head coach of Norwich City last summer.

He joined the Canaries from Borussia Dortmund II on a two-year deal, having led the German giants’ reserve team to a second-place finish in the Regionalliga West in 2016/17.

Regarded as one of the most highly-rated young coaches in Germany, Farke had previously spent six years with SV Lippstadt 08.

    STAR MAN – JAMES MADDISON
The 21-year-old central attacking midfielder has been in fine form this season, having notched seven goals and five assists to make him the club’s joint-top scorer and leader of the assists chart.

The former Coventry and Aberdeen loanee also has a pass success rate of 87% and has been named man of the match twice, making him one to keep an eye on this afternoon.

Canaries: Huckerby 82.Bristol City substitutes Lee Trundle and Scott Murray scored late goals to condemn managerless Norwich to their fifth defeat in six games.

In dramatic fashion, Murray restored City's lead in the 85th minute with a 30-yard shot which hit one post and then the other before nestling in.

With momentum in their stride, Trundle secured maximum points for Gary Johnson’s side with a last minute curling effort beyond the keeper from close range.

The stats suggest we dominated the game but they were clearly more clinical with one of their 3 shots on target.

Liam Walsh looks a good player. I felt we lost his flicks and niggling at their players. Loved the bit when him Pato and Bryan were flicking it around Norwich by the south stand / Dolman corner.

Kent will need another few game’s to see, but on today’s he didn’t look interested. Probably down to only having a chat with the regular players. Hopefully he will start to gel with them soon.

Pack to me is a really good player but he needs to work on his shooting as he had good opportunities today.

Pack has lead in his boots today.

Kent looked like a player that didn’t want to be on the pitch.

    Striker urgently required.

    1. A man arrives at the gates of heaven, where St. Peter greets him and says: "Before I can let you enter I must ask you what you have done in your life that was particularly good."

The man racks his brains for a few minutes and then admits to St. Peter that he hasn't done anything particularly good in his life.

"Well," says St. Peter, "have you done anything particularly brave in your life?"

"Yes, I have," replies the man proudly.

St. Peter asks the man to give an account of his bravery.

So the man explains, "I was refereeing this important match between Bristol Rovers and Bristol City at Tne Minimal the score was 0-0 and there was only one more minute of play to go in the second half when I awarded a penalty against Bristol Rovers at the Tent End end."

"Yes," responded St. Peter, "I agree that was a real act of bravery. Can you perhaps tell me when this took place?"

"Certainly," the man replied, "about three minutes ago."
