Stupid and ill-advised comment to post, but depends on whether the comment was added afterwards or was a translation of what the photographer is saying to his team mates. The former is racist or at the least ill-advised, but the latter is a joke I can imagine one player saying to another. Just don't post it!

I've just heard Darren Ferguson's post match press conference. He should be banned from football for a long time. ****ing disgusting what he said.

He was ranting on for about a minute about all the **** decisions his team has been on the end of which is understandable but when asked what should be done about the referee's he said "shoot them". The FA have to ban him from all football activities until the end of the season at least. Touchline ban won't cut it.

I’ve listened to what he said, he was reacting straight after the game, referring to an incident right at the end by all accounts and I don’t think it was that bad if i’m honest - it was a flippant comment, and his point was that they are poor, unfit and not up to standard. Don’t know the specifics of the game he is talking about of course, but the standard of refereeing in this country, in my opinion, is absolutely rubbish.

To ban him from all football activities is a gross overreaction in my view. Referees are too protected a species.

Don't care if it was flippant or not. What he said was completely unacceptable and him being angry and reacting straight after a game is not a valid excuse.

Well that needs to be taken into account: it’s the circumstances it was said in.

Managers are punished all the time for speaking honestly about referees - and quite frankly it’s an utter joke because, as Ferguson pointed out, the referees will make awful errors and walk into another match the next week.
His phrase may have been inappropriate, but taken in contexts, I don’t think he meant it maliciously.

I agree with you to an extent that managers are sometimes harshly punished but you've got to restrain yourself in what you say to the press. Saying it in private is one thing, but when it gets aired on the radio, on TV, and it gets on the internet and in the papers then you're in trouble. The FA will come down on him like a ton of bricks and they should do. The situation with referee's after match isn't great. IMO the assessor needs to come and speak to the press when there is something controversial that happened so he can explain what the referee was thinking when he made the decision. Darren Ferguson is not a rookie manager. He's been around for years and he knew what he was doing when he made those comments. If Wenger gets a 3 match touchline ban for using inappropriate language in the privacy of the referee's room then Ferguson will get a lot more than that coming to him.

Obvious he didn't mean it literally....he should be punished as if he was disrespectful. Sitting in the stands for a few games with a dunce's hat on his head should do it. However, I do think that people should learn to stay schtum until their brain is in gear.

I understand what you're both saying, but I think Wenger getting a 3 game touchline ban was ridiculous too. Dean made a poor error at the end of a match which cost Arsenal the game, and the FA thought it right to only punish Wenger. If the referees were better, there would be less need to sanction managers.

Hurry up and get VAR in properly for gods sake.

It’s a stupid thing to say but a complete overreaction to ban him for all footballing activities until the end of the season.

Referees get too much protection when they have been doing a terrible job for quite some time now.
