Yes, I loath the Mail and its blatant hypocrisy but this move may have more to do with the fact that the Mail has been attacking Virgin group.

Tbh, I find it hilarious. The Mail has been verging on being a mildly pornographic, so right-wing it falls off its own perch through lack of balance, piece of garbage for decades. It claims to represent the opinion of the population of this country when it has zero interest in that opinion, serving only to be the mouthpiece of those who already have too much, to make those who have too little feel that they should be grateful.

I'm as liberal minded as the next person, but just occasionally I think that those who use my stance of 'I may not agree with that opinion but I'll defend their right to express it' a little too freely and without responsibility, and perhaps should be made to realise it. Don't take your freedom of speech for granted, Daily Mail. There's a responsible right wing view, and a Daily Fail view.

Yep. It's excellent. I'm not going to tell you anything about it because whatever I say will spoil it in some way.

Oh Dave, what an awful situation, and sending you all the love and best wishes.

I remember having the same thoughts when my father was dying. He was essentially comatose at the end, and the cancer had attacked his brain, so even prior to that his mind had completely deserted him. I always think that we would never let our beloved pets get to that point, as it would be cruel beyond words. Yet we have to allow our loved ones to suffer through this process. It makes no sense, and people should be allowed to die with dignity.

All the best mate and hope you’re managing to keep your head and spirits up.

Sorry for a belated response Dave but saw your sad post and thought I'd offer an opinion formed partly by working on a elderly care psychiatric unit.

It's almost impossible to have a system which will allow for all the varying personal attitudes of dying people and their relatives towards euthanasia. There are some countries where decent attempts at doing this have been implemented and I think the uk should look, learn and review the law in this area regularly.

My attitudes were affected by dealing with a very small minority of relatives who lied, manipulated and caused so much further pain, driven by money or perverse motives which defy understanding. I stress it's a very small minority, and I'm aware so many relatives have been seriously distressed by the current situation.

I suspect there's a better balance but understand the resistance, especially from Doctors, to relax the options. My experiences leave me feeling very cautious about any changes. I also think knowing there are people alive now, and glad to be so, who in the past wanted early release reinforces my caution.

I hope none of this is offends anyone, and god knows I don't claim to be right about anything, just my (somewhat jaded) perspective.
