LIVERPOOL sold Coutinho,£142m in the bank to play with. RB Leipzig want their own cut. Agreement already in place for summer transfer. Liverpool cannot win the title this season, but in good position to finish in the top four. We can buy one or two players to make the team stronger. Do you think Keita should come now in summer?
I think the simple answer is if we can't land any other targets then yes get him now. Another plus is that he'd be familiar with the team sooner which would bode well for next season. I think we need to realise that money in football doesn't matter anymore.
Yep to a certain extent. Money does not matter for certain clubs like PSG City Barcelona Madrid. This is because they are bankrolled by countries or governments/local and regional councils. Clubs like ours still have to have a look at the balance sheet and the actual resale value of the player. Who in their right mind would have thought that after having been bought for £200m, Neymar could now be worth £400m to Madrid? The whole thing is now getting absolutely ridiculous. All the players that have last summer been transferred for record amounts are now "bargains" and can now be worth double.
Agree. Maybe a different matter if paying the extra meant not getting another target in another area due to lack of funds but haven't heard that's the case. Just bring him in...stops him degrading at a club he's given up for... which we will have to reverse in the summer. We get player sooner while still in a good league position so no pressure on him to "save us"
I'm afraid I don't agree. We need to be smarter in our transfer dealings. We have already overpaid for VVD (compared to 6 months earlier), have reportedly already paid a premium for Keita and are being asked to pay even more by RBL. Every other club we do business will be thinking we are a soft touch. Clubs already think we are loaded.
RB are also trying to qualify for the CL and they are in a tight race for the 3 available slots. It's the same argument for them where fans could not make sense for Coutinho joining Barca. So if they are going to lose their player it may as well be at a premium. Let's be honest we pulled Barcas pants on Coutinho and whoever we go for will come at a premium way more than what RB are asking for.
A few of around £10-15m is ok. Anymore, then it’s not worth it. But we definitely should do all we can to bring him in. Quality player who can create.
I don't know the answer to this because I'm not clairvoyant, but if he made the difference between CL qualification and not then it's worth it. Yes, we're getting rogered in one sense, but we are in a strong position for top 4, and we need to ensure we make it. Apart from the money aspect, it is almost a necessity now if you're going to attract, and hang on to, top players. Although Salah has brushed aside the Real rumours for now, imagine if we fail to make the CL and Madrid come in with a ridiculous offer. It's a gamble, we have to call it right or we'll be set back yet again.
This. Imagine we pay an additional £10m+ for just a few months in the PL? What a load of b*******. On what evidence can someone say he will save our season? I feel like fans are blinded by names, in substance he has had a difficult season and needs time to bed in. Long term wise, other clubs will continue to rinse us for transfers. Fans need to understand the business side of football DOES affect the club.
I don't think anyone has phrased it as "saving" our season. It's not that dramatic, but there is a debate to be had as to whether he significantly strengthens our hand to ensure we consolidate our position and don't slip. As I said earlier, it's a gamble - because we can't know either way.
Also, fans need to leave the business side of football to the people who hold the purse strings. Let those who know our finances make those decisions.
