No, but it contains Paracetamol and it's an offence to import into some countries, which I suspect barely anyone would consider checking. My point was, that people don't consider prescription drugs to be a big deal to take away with them, if her bloke had said bring me a load of heroin, I'm sure she'd have told him to get ****ed.

She obtained the tablets illegally....case closed in my opinion.
It is irrelevant where she went with them or the laws in that country.
She broke the law so now pays the penalty.

If it is, I’d expect someone taking 300 lemsip there to give to someone else to be punished...

Prescription drugs are for a person with a prescription for them. She didn't have a prescription for them. He reckons he just asked her for painkillers for her back. She could have bought a load legally from a chemist. But she chose Tramadol. One she had to obtain illegally. Rather strange.Codeine is prohibited in Greece but you are OK if you have your prescription with you and aren't taking more in than needed for the length of your stay.
If you are planning to go to Japan, a tip - Vicks inhalers are not allowed to be brought in.

As she lied and said they were for her boyfriends mam, I don't believe a word this bird or her family say.

Dunno about anyone else but I can’t help wondering how many times she had done this and was this just the first time she got caught?

Well, I ask that question, and was told she had told him that it was for his political views, but one never knows. He was a bit of a lad the driver, he saw it as a public service he was carrying out, administering to someone needs.

I am not defending her, all I said was that the boyfriend must have known what the risks were, and he should be taking some of the responsibility. She was stupid, she might be lying as BCC says, but she could easily just be a dumb type that never thought she was doing anything wrong. Non of us know which is the real reason. By all accounts the guy has married her, but also has an Egyptian wife, which is allowable in Egypt, but I wager she didn't know, and he has been very economical with the truth.

According to him he didn't ask her to get Tramodol just pain killers. Yet she chose to get Tramodol, a popular recreational drug in Egypt, which should had to obtain illegally as, like in Egypt, it is only available on prescription. As for his Egyptian wife, far from not knowing about her she has actually met her. Just an everyday tale, isn't it?

As for tablets for back pain she could have consulted the NHS website. No mention of Tramodol, the one she decided must be the one. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/back-pain/treatment/

I'm pretty sure that I read that, as well as his wife, M(r)s Plummer was not his only "wife". He could have been getting multiple sources of tramadol.

It's funny this thread. I honestly can't understand how some people have come to such odd conclusions.

Tramadol is an opioid. It's highly addictive and as such has become the recreational drug of choice in Egypt, ergo, it has a street value, both here and there.

It's illegal to obtain in this country without a prescription and it's definitely illegal to have in the quantity we're talking about. If she'd been caught before she boarded the outbound flight, she'd have faced the police here, as would the person who supplied her.

She has signed documents to become an "orfi" wife. The locals call them "**** papers". You sign these so the police don't arrest Muslim men for cheating on their wives. She's been flying out three or four times a year and doesn't even know her 'husband's full name and we only know about this time because she got caught.

Presumably everyone will be cool with my mate flying an ounce of weed over from California?

I said that previously and nothing ive seen or read about has changed my mind.
We have laws...break them and you get into bother.
It's a pity our legal system wasn't as stringent.

I'm amazed this still runs. Has anyone tried to argue her innocence? Isn't, or wasn't, the discussion mainly focussed on the severity of the sentence? I think it's harsh and is making a statement to the UK, and because of that I believe she is being unfairly treated.

I believe her family has argued her innocence.
She is not innocent, she obtained the drugs illegally.
Good luck with getting her sentence reviewed:emoticon-0148-yes:

Egypt has the death penalty for certain offenses. Not this offence but they have it.
Some might think the death penalty is harsh.
I don't. I wish we had it here.
