We should do better this time. I can't see us conceeding more than 4 goals , or scoring less than none.

Going for draw - expect loss
Sterling on form and not really done much against us - expect him to do something this time.
    Expecting reasonable game though :)

Liverpool can beat Manchester City using high-octane pressing, says Tony Gale
    By Calum Wilson
    Last Updated: 10/01/18 1:02pm

last-minute goal from Sergio Aguero in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday, caused problems for Pep Guardiola's side by taking the game to their opponents and Liverpool are expected to adopt a similar style when the teams meet at Anfield on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.

Liverpool capitulated in the reverse fixture in September after Sadio Mane was sent off and Jurgen Klopp's team will be hoping to avenge the 5-0 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium.

City beat Liverpool 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in September
Asked if Liverpool will be psychologically disadvantaged after that defeat, Gale said: "There would have been some damage but I anticipate that Liverpool will play this pressing and it will press Man City like they have never been pressed.

"It will be high-octane stuff and if anyone is going to do it, it will be Liverpool.

"There have been signs that City, particularly the centre-backs - not so much John Stones but Otamendi or Mangala - you can press certain players and nick the ball off them.

"That will be Liverpool's ploy and they will try and play this game at 100 miles per hour and at the same time have that composure to go on and create chances themselves."

City are actively trying to bring in a new centre-back and are reportedly admirers of Leicester's Harry Maguire, but Sky Sports News understands that the England international is not a target for January.

Virgil van Dijk v Sergio Aguero: The key battle when Liverpool host Manchester City

    • please log in to view this image
Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Aguero will clash at Anfield on Sunday
The world's most expensive defender goes up against the Premier League's best ever minutes-per-goal striker live on Sky Sports on Sunday - but will Liverpool's £75m man Virgil van Dijk or Manchester City's Sergio Aguero come out on top?

Van Dijk made a dream start to his Liverpool career, scoring a derby winner on his debut in the FA Cup against Everton on Friday night. If he scores again on Sunday he would become only the second Liverpool defender to score on his Premier League debut after Abel Xavier, who scored 16 minutes into his first appearance in a 6-0 win at Ipswich in February 2002.

However, former Southampton captain Van Dijk was signed by Liverpool for his defensive qualities and the Reds will be buoyed by the fact that he has outperformed all of their other centre-back options since his arrival at St Mary's in September 2015.

Van Dijk v other Liverpool defenders - last three PL seasons
Van Dijk Lovren Matio Klavan Gomez
    Clearances/90 7.3 6.6 5.3 5.4 2.8
    Interceptions/90 2.7 1.6 1.7 1 2
    Blocks/90 0.75 0.55 0.54 0.49 0.4
    Errors leading to goals 0 3 2 1 0
    Goals 4 3 2 1 0

One stat which Liverpool will certainly welcome is that Van Dijk has yet to make an error which has led to a goal in the Premier League. This has been Liverpool's failing in the last three seasons, with only West Ham players making more costly errors.

Most errors leading to goals - Premier League since August 2015
    Team Errors leading to goals
    West Ham 28
    Liverpool 25
    Crystal Palace 25
    Bournemouth 23
Van Dijk has actually made only three errors leading to a shot while Dejan Lovren, for example, has made nine, of which three have led to a goal.

Another personal stat in which Aguero would like to improve upon is his record at Liverpool. He has failed to score or win in eight appearances at Anfield, and has scored only one goal in 14 appearances on Merseyside - which came at Goodison Park.

Aguero's most apps at opposition grounds without scoring (European career)
    Opposition Apps without scoring
    Liverpool 8
    Racing Santander 6
    Crystal Palace 5
    Osasuna 4
By stark contrast, Aguero has scored in all six of his Premier League games against Liverpool at the Etihad. Overall, no other City player has scored more Premier League goals against the Reds.

Aguero has managed just one shot on target in three matches against Van Dijk
Aside from Merseyside, the 29-year-old sharp-shooter has an incredible scoring rate since moving to England six-and-a-half years ago. Since signing for City in July 2011, he has amassed 188 goals in 278 appearances, including 135 in 198 Premier League appearances.

He has 36 goals in his last 46 appearances for club and country, including 17 goals in his last 18 away appearances for City, so perhaps that Anfield trend is about to change.

Best mins/goal in Premier League history (min 20 goals)
    Player Goals Mins/goal
    Aguero 135 109
    Kane 96 113
    Henry 175 122
    Van Nistelrooy 95 128
    Suarez 69 139
Aguero has the best minutes-per-goal rate in Premier League history and these high-end figures are still maintained even for 'Big Six' head-to-head games.

During his time at City, he has at least 15 more goals than any other player in 'Big Six' matches.

Most PL goals in Big Six head-to-heads since August 2011
    Player Goals Apps Mins/goal
    Aguero 35 53 120
    Rooney 20 46 184
    Van Persie 18 31 150
    Kane 16 31 167
    Hazard 16 52 261
It's quite hard to believe that despite these numbers, Aguero has yet to be named in a PFA Team of the Year.

Perhaps finishing top scorer in a Manchester City title-winning season could sway the judges. But first he'll have to find a way past Liverpool's Van Dijk.

Last game we had ragnar klavan up agasint Aguero and i predicting goals for aguero. All he had to do was run off the lads shoulder and he would lose our poor ragnar

This time round its virgil and matip so it will be interesting

IMO the route for goals for city will be right down the middle with Debruyne and silva basically taking up spaces Can and milner vacate going forward. I can see aguero being bottled up but city just catching us on the counter as we don't leave enough bodies covering.

that said... our front 3 need another body to form the press so I expect Ox to play with firmino, mane and salah. High press, try win ball up there, can and milner but be very disciplined.

De Bruyne is the best midfielder in the world atm. Silva is still fantastic, but doesnt get talked about. Sterling is on great form and Sane who is probably better than Sterling is great too. Aguero always scores against us.

So can't see us not conceding, but I exoect us to score. If Mané and Salah are on it then we could win, but its our weak midfield I worry about, leaving our defence exposed. Van Dijk is good and all but hes not a miracle worker
