If proven he did use a racist insult I would expect a ban the same length as Suarez for the Liverpool player. If it’s proven he lied then Holgate should get an equal length ban and as an additional punishment his contract cut with Everton.

How Liverpool deal with Firmino is their decision.

 

The tribal bit coming in:

Assumption that he is indeed a victim.

That he's being victimised for a second time if his version is at all questioned.

There's an interesting comparison to the recent attitudes to sexual assaults.

That the accuser is to be believed. Unfortunately I believe this is an error. It means there is an assumption of definite guilt elsewhere and an investigation is no longer about finding the truth it's an attempt to find evidence that fits the accuser version only.

We are now seeing the repercussions of that with a few sexual assault cases where the police ignored or even hid contradicting evidence as it didn't suit the original assumption.

There should never , ever be an automatic belief of an accuser. What should happen is that their accusation is taken seriously and not dismissed until an investigation shows as close to the truth as possible.

If at the end of the investigation not ebough evidence is uncovered, sorry but that's just tough. It stops there. No statement is made other than evidence was not found. No value judgement is placed on that statement.

Its almost impossible to prove, holgate would have to admit he lied. Even if the allegation is found to be false I have said all along that there should not and will not be any punishment for holgate.

Still mystified as to how all the focus is on what Firmino did or did not say and not the actual attack on him in the first place. If Holgate isn't punished, then that clears the way for players to push players into whatever they want. See Kane going for a header at the near post? Just shove him into it head first.
