Yep, if the board were proactive (Ha) it sounds like we could have signed him up easily. As Alderweireld returned to action, the Belgian suggested he would be happy to extend his stay on the south coast. “If I could choose then of course I would like to stay here," he said. "It's not up to me and Atletico could decide that they want me back. I'm enjoying the Premier League, I'm enjoying playing for Southampton - I love the club and I love the supporters.” “Southampton are in a good position because I know the club,” he said. “They are very good to me. I did a great job for them as well so we have a good connection. I really like the Premier League.” He said this in early 2015, when only we had an option to sign him.
And I thought this window was depressing. Wonderful, shall we bring up the marvellous deal we got for a young Bale next?
Is it just me or is anyone else slightly concerned we didn't have anyone lined up to sign the second the window opened , considering its majorly evident we are in the sh*t? I mean when my car is low on diesel i go and fill the ****er up , I don't wait until it's running on empty and have to pay some lumpy sum for engine to be bled. Common logic surely? We seem to be doing everything possible to **** ourselves over even further.
What was the point of selling VVD on day 1 of the window if it wasn't to provide the money to conclude deals. All we have done is tell everyone else we have 75m to spend. No wonder we cannot get anyone in at a decent price.
These things do take time but I must admit I'm wondering what happened to the player who was supposedly close and already visited staplewood etc. Carrido?
Makes Austin look pacy...but more importantly, Everton have given a load of £100k+ 5 year contracts out and already regret it. We shouldn't bail them out of the next 4.5 years of pain.
Oh dear I’m really beginning to think the saints board need a bloody good shake up. Fancy allowing VVD to go so early in the window to let every one know we have a load of money. Or alternatively having the new players ready to be announced at the same time. It would also appear our new owners were not prepared to put new money in. So much for them saying they will invest in the club.
If only if it was that easy. Some players and agents will wait later in the window to see what comes along, some will want to go but the club's don't want them to go. We could go and sign anyone, but if we want to add some real quality to our squad it will take time I.e. Gabbiadini.
May be totally wrong, but I just assume that we are taking our usual time. At least, I hope that is what it is.
I am more concerned that we had players lined up (one was meant to be all but done) and then suddenly everything goes quiet
