No. Of course wealth can’t always be an accurate barometer of success, that’s where other factors come in. Management, training, buying and selling, etc. Otherwise Leicester would never have won the league.

However, it is a guide to the resources available to each club. And in these days of ever increasing importance of money ( as the prices of any half decent players rise and rise ) it’s as good a guide as any.

Considering our financial position, we’ve done pretty well the last few seasons. A club our size reaching the CL at all is an achievement in itself.

 

Wealth doesn't guarantee success but when five other clubs can spend much more than us it's a really hard job to come above all of them. The solution is to gradually improve. We will lose some good players on the way unfortunately but provided we replace them carefully we can still get better.

 

I remember when you had gazza. would have been a world beater than geordie ****.

Until Levy was appointed we've never had a Board who understood what it takes to win the league so we massively underperformed despite quite a few cup successes. We had a disastrous time just before the CL started which left us uncompetitive with the then top 4 and we've been having to recover since.
