It was just the 3 of us and my girls don't like to eat late so we head out early. I might head down to the pub soon. If I can be arsed!
Went to a Thai restaurant in Stratford for lunch.. Was bloody lovely. Had three small plates of starters, two plates of spicy salad stuff, then one plate of noodles and curry type things. Would love to know how they get their belly pork so crunchy. They also do these little shards of what I think is gammon that’s been marinated in something as is black. They’re bloody lovely. @The Gingermeister do you know what it is?
What were the starters Sweats? The salads sound like they were papaya based but ferang versions tend to have grated carrot in with red chilli, msg, fish sauce. That would be SomTam Thai. FFS don’t ask for SomTam Lao which will burn your face off unless you are used to the heat. I’ve seen as much as 32 red Thai chillis go in that **** as well as uncooked black rock crab. The curry’s could be anything depending on the colour. The black shards sounds like Moo taut with leaf macourt which is basically deep fried pork with honey, sesame seeds (here) With deep fried lime leaves and sometimes oyster sauce.
The starters were pancake rolls, tempura veg, corn fritters, weird fishy cheesy stuff in a scallop shell, that deep fried pork stuff. No sesame seeds on it. It is quite sweet mind. They had chunks of belly pork where the fat was the best crackling ever, shredded pork pancake rolls, and chicken satay which is loads better than what you get at a Chinese.
Hm never seen that here but maybe a ferang adaption but the crispy pork is easy mate. Buy some belly pork and cut it in half inch slices. Prick with a fork all over then deep fry. It’s a winner evertime.
That looks awesome. The Mrs loves Thai food. She spent some time over there. Her brother married a girl from the northern hill tribes. Mrs makes a very good laab.
Love lab Moo mate, Mrs Ginge does a good trad version of that along with pad krapow. She’s from the hill people too Isaan. What province Sweats?
Akha tribe. Near a Place called fang? The Mrs learnt how to make lab. Bloody lovely it is. Their cold salads do melt your face off. I really enjoy a red curry, she learnt that too from her sister in law.
My Mrs want the recipe for that in the picture. Place we went today was laab gai. The Mrs usually does laab moo. That’s with pork yeah?
Yes but nice with Nuea (beef) as I said cut your belly pork thinly, prick liberally with a fork and deep fry until crispy. The veg is just thai cabbage but pak Choi works well fried in a wok with garlic and red chillies bashed in a pestle in a little oil with fish sauce and oyster sauce.
Try this one Sweats, it’s Pad Phet Moo. It’s very spicy but it’s up to you how many little red sticks of dynamite you put in.
I've got this unopened chicken liver and sloe gin pate left over from Christmas. I will have this for me dinner Which means having to have baguette. So that's bread and it doesn't meet the pesci criteria!
She's all enthusiastic about it, doing my nut in as I'm having to work hard thinking of things to cook.
