Is it catching on one of the neighbouring keys? Or is the plastic underneath broken? Are any other less used keys same size you can switch it with? Take key off and super glue some other object to key for a DIY enter key...
Unfortunately no keys the same size, the enter key is a special shape (like an upside down boot is the best way I can describe it). Its completely free of any other keys so its not catching on neighbouring keys, I think somethings broken underneath, but I can't pinpoint exactly what. There's like a white plastic pracket around the button itself which I think is causing the problem but I have no idea whats wrong with it cause I haven't seen it working to begin with. I might have to try the bottom solution, even if its going to look dodgy as ****
Thing is it won't work with the key on either way! So I don't think its a problem with the key being loose, its something to do with the key not engaging the button beneath it for some reason. The button works fine when I take the key off but when I put the key back on it stops working!!
hhhhhhhh Take it your laptop hasn't got a PC style layout with a block number pad on right hand side cos if it has there is an extra enter button just to the right of the number pad .
Oh, if you have a number pad and want a silly answer. Hold down your left alt and on the number pad type 013. If memory serves correct that mimics a carriage return. (Can't test at moment because on phone) If 013 doesn't work try alt-010. It's one of those two.
what this sounds like is there may be a spike under the button itself that does the pressing and is broken off OYu might be able to glue something in there to do the job. One bit of useless advice is you can buy keyboards for laptops at about 80-100 quid.
a normal plug in desk top keyboard is <£10 maybe get it for a fiver even but when you are buying a replacement keyboard for a laptop.. as in detach keyboard and drop in a new one they are not cheap. the price varies if they have that tracker ball mouse thing that nobody uses in it, HP and lenovo include that. MOst new laptops now come with keyboard that you can lift out to get to RAM slots. you can drop in a different language keyboard to customise.
I know all that I repair laptops and pcs for family and friends. Your prices is what I was laughing at. Besides do we know what model laptop he has yet.
erm... what Solid said, if theres a numpad to the right of the laptop theres an enter button there. erm... aren't keyboards really cheap? All you need is a normal keyboard with a USB attachment It's a tenner https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003ZY9Z40/?tag=not606-21 or 20 for a wireless keyboard https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077PZ5T1X/?tag=not606-21 Dunno where you getting the 80-100 quid from.
usb desktop keyboard are very very cheap yes. A laptop builtin replacement keyboard isn't that cheap. You are right what you posted but this is more like what i was saying https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01JU0E4R0/?tag=not606-21 its actually half the price of the approved catalogue i'd have to order from.
haha i wouldn't expect myself to replace a laptop keyboard let alone Garlic . Don't you need it to be compatible to the laptop design i.e. you can't just buy any old one and replace?
exactly. you have the get the right part no and find the exact one. well.. they fit a few laptop models but... its simply a case that a guy using it to say watch netflix in bed doesn't need a keyboard separate to the laptop to fall over getting out of bed in the morning?
