As much as i love Pedro, there just isn't the talent coming through and he has been there long enough to have an influence on that................. time for a change.
Maybe its the Roy Keane syndrome............... gets frustrated because he is working with players that are not as good as him or do not try as hard as he did............. with the yoof of today i could easily see Beardo getting pissed off about that, especially the wages that these youngsters will be picking up too.
Probably goes back to Ashley and finances first and foremost. That being said the promising youngsters we have had never seemed to make the grade or hit the heights they were supposed to.
Whether it is intended as bullying or not, and whether people should be thicker skinned or not, there is obviously a problem regardless of rights and wrongs. If we have a substantial part of the youth set up unhappy at the way that the club is treating them then that is a problem. Young egos are fragile and young player contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. We don't need to be giving any potential talent an excuse to leave, though neither should we pandering to poor discipline and diva demands. This does sound like it may be a generational thing though, as has been said. I imagine Pedro received more than his fair share of **** as a youth player, along with all of his contemporaries.
I had to double take when I realised Tom Heardman is 22, and nowhere near as good as Joselu it would seem! We have got to be close to being the only club in the PL not picking their youth players.
Very true. As much as I see the youth of today as a complete set of tarts, the reality is you have to be smart enough to adapt and manage them. This news of further complaints being made, some of it potentially racist (although its the Daily Fail) is a concern and you'd have to wonder if a number are making complaints. The Gibson situation hacked me off as people can point to money, or wanting to play with his U21 mates etc, but the reality is that lad decided he was better off elsewhere. The likes of West Ham, Southampton, Palace manage to keep their youngsters long enough to make huge profits off them. So clearly their systems are giving the young lads confidence and they see opportunity. A line should have been drawn in the sand many moons ago when the likes of Shearer, Carrick etc all decided they were better off somewhere else. Its high time it was sorted out once and for all. The North East is still full of enthusiastic kids who want to be a pro. Someone needs to harness the talent and make the most of it.
Peter Beardsley was a great player and from the last time I met him, is a proper gentleman. So I've got no idea what's going on. Our academy isn't producing though, so a shake up is clearly warranted.
Pedro is my Dad`s favourite player ever. My Auntie was part of Sir Bobbys office and she arranged for my Dad to meet Peter and he personally showed my Dad around the ground and took him for dinner. I really hope this is some wimpy teen complaining about things being a bit tough.!!
Probably some wimpy teen used to having people fawn over them and stroke their ego being told that actually, they aren't as good as they think. Beardsley a racist? What an absolute crock.
Apparently he's massively unpopular and Lewis Gibson was advised to leave due to him. Loved the guy as a player but weird how his name consistently pops up like this. At the end of the day, regardless of different worlds, young players are still fragile as **** and Beardsley's job involves man-management. If there's substance to the racism he needs sacking, simple as. I ****ing would be in my job.
I think Beardsley's days are numbered whatever the outcome of these investigations. He has obviously lost the trust and confidence of the youth players so he cant really continue in the role. Factor in the piss poor players he's churning out year after year (not all his fault but it should be better) and he's got to go. If any allegations are proved true then he has to go anyway.
I hope there are no foundations to these allegations but if there are then that's another boyhood hero of mine that I will have tainted memories of now. A profile name change might be in order as well.
Yeah not the first time he has had these allegations made against him apparently. Think he is from a different era to today's kids and probably is just saying things that use to get said to him as a trainee but you can't say those things anymore in case the snowflakes start melting but that's the way of the world now.
Whatever the allegations, whatever the outcome, this failing is another that sits at the fat fckers door. There is a distant history of issues with youth and reserves we've struggled to come back from, which was KK's idea, but the pathetic excuse for a "structure" we have had under Ashley is laughable. We're miles behind the likes of Boro, Fulham, etc. - it's not even worth trying to compare to other PL clubs. Under any other owner, Lee Charnley would never have seen the light of day, let alone the keys to the kingdom.
Sad to see a club legend being dragged through the dirt on home turf. How much he's done wrong is yet to be determined, if anything, but this looks like trouble for Mr B in one way or another. Generation gap? Straw clutching?
Its the reality of every generation growing up more sheltered than the last, but If he's actually been racist I dont know if you can cast it off that simply. Beardsley didn't grow up in the war era and has spent a considerable number of years in football, playing with other races, he is well aware of how to conduct himself properly and does so in every interview I've seen. Hope it's not true, with a face like that I'm not sure how you can take the piss out of anyone!
I picked up the phone about 10 years ago and it was Pedro on the phone! My wife had asked him if we could have something to auction in aid of St Oswalds Hospice children's unit in Gosforth. He booked us for free the 206 suite at St James's, got us free grub and spoke on the night. He offered to coach the kids at my wife's school in Consett. This bloke is a hero. The present story is bazaar.
