Boro never was a derby to most of us mate. Always got bother there like. Even back in Ayresome Park days.
Seriously? Middlesborough is less than 30 mins from Sunderland. Just because it isn’t considered a derby, it doesn’t mean it isn’t. Boro certainly consider one hence the trouble. It’s not to the level of you and us to be fair.
I was right next to the Boro fans, when they were singing "We hate Sunderland", I shouted back "We don't mind Boro".. Think that annoys the hell out of them..
why the apathy towards them? York vs Scarborough is a derby and they are further away than Sunderland is from Boro
Boro's only real derby is Hartlepool United, cept they never play them. Hence why the latch on to us both mate.
A derby is not just on distance which in this case is also too far. It's about emotional investment too. Very few people acknowledge it for as a derby, so how can it be?
Would Celtic or Rangers fans consider Partick Thistle or Queens Park as a derby. I think not & they all from the same city.
Fair enough chaps! Nobody really cares about the mutants but the only one I know, hates Sunderland (and Newcastle) with a passion!
We don't sound remotely Geordie/Makem mate. It's like saying Vic and Bob sounds like Ross Noble and Bobby Thompson We sound north Yorkshire mate. Get yourself to places like Richmond mate, you can hear the development in a twang. Darlo ofcourse sits on the County Durham- North Yorkshire boarder and boro of course was north yorkshire until the teesside area was invented.
You definitely don’t sound North Yorkshire! I sound North Yorkshire and I am nothing like those from the Boro. Don’t know how to do YouTube links on phones (laptop has decided to top itself) but she sounds nowt like me.
See I hear County Durham meets North Yorkshire, twangs of each which is typical of county bordering towns. Sounds nothing remotely like geordie to me. It's the use of slang, Boro have their own slang which shares nothing with Newcastle or Sunderland which share terms while having their own turn of phrase. Turns of phrase which filter out the further south you get into Durham. I've been looking at houses all over country Durham and I hear the changes in language variation all over the country but even as close south as Seaham, that Mackem Twang is fading out to favour the country durham accent. Get into west durham they develop a twang that gives them a unique vertion of the county Durham accent but introducing slang like Thu, Thou, Thee and Thy which are actually historic Middle English words dating back to the Norman Conquest. Truely bizarre they've retained this dialect but it's there and sets their accent apart from the rest of county durham. I don't know, I just hear a the variations in accents easy.
Boros derby is Darlo. They used to be hell on whenever they played but that doesnt happen now. Boro fans really despise us for some reason. Even more than they hate Newcastle. Ive been in more than a few scrapes round here once people have found out who i support.
I'd go with that, but I would say it a second derby to Hartlepool for darlo but I think that's a direct result of playing at the same level for many years. Standing in the tin shed for years when Sunderland played away the attention was always in the monkey hangers, Boro wouldn't get much mention. Not to take away from the buzz created from the Rare(at the time) Boro friendlies which would whip Darlo into a frenzy of excitement. Think the Boro-Darlo derby would be a hell of lot bigger had there been more fixtures over the years.
