Holgate and Firmino incident !

It is really about culture and what's considered acceptable. 30 years ago, whatever Firmino had said would not even have been mentioned. Fans nearby would have been screaming even worst racist abuse to Holgate. But quite rightly we've moved on from these awful times. We look at some of the East European countries and think how far back they are in terms of tackling racial abuse.

Why should it be normal for Holgate to receive a verbal racist insult (if indeed that's what happened) even if he committed a bad foul? Why do some people instantly resort to that verbal retaliation first? Ok, push him or physically grab him in the heat of the moment but why call him some "black so and so" . His blackness should not come into it.

We have moved on in football in this country and I'm afraid that if Firmino did say the alleged words then the FA will punish him severely.

But you don't comment on if nothing has been said then Holgate should be punished.

And the media for fueling it or any misunderstanding that may have occurred.

I did say that he will be punished IF he said it. JOTL although an Everton fan thought that even if he did say it its no big deal.

But you are right 100%. If the FA want to tackle it and view this as serious a false accusation has to be punished severely. Just as false accusations of other serious crimes are legally punished. But I can't see why Holgate would make this up.
