i think we can ignore the cup results on tuesday as far as league 2 form is concerned.
next saturday the shrews entertain swindon town who came a pearler today at home to oxford, this result has put swindon in 19th place with 3 points.
their season started brightly on 6/8/11 with a 3 - 0 win at home to crewe, since then they have lost 1-0 at chelt, 1-0 away to the daggers and todays home reverse 1-2 to oxon.

    league
    p4 w 1 d 0 L 2 f 4 a 4 gd 0 points 3 pos. 19th

shrews have 5 points 2 draws and a win over crewe, and i fully expect town to add to their win on saturday.

    prediction

    shrews 2 swindon 0

    wright and morgan att 5250.

i do hope young bradshaw will be fully fit soon and may start or finish a game for shrews

Swindon are a very unpredictable team and with them the result depends on what players turn up on the night, but i can see a very easy three points there!!

For me it's nailed-on us not turning up after the cup heroics. But i'll go with another 2-0 win, Morgan and Gornell. A slightly better attendance, 5400.

Biggest league game so far I think. Nothing to do with opponents, just a potential turning point. The warm up period is coming to an end and the league will start to take shape over the next few weeks. Will we fall flat as we did after Derby or have we learned that lesson? A win would propel us into the top half and set us up for what looks like a tough September. Anything less and September will look even harder.

Swindon are very much an unknown quantity in this league and the high expectations surrounding them means they have had a tricky start to the league campaign. They will take heart from a good result at Bristol City. Town badly need a win to get into the top half and seem to be more at home playing against teams who try to play passing football and give us more space in midfield. I anticipate a tight game with us winning 1-0 and Morgan scoring. Despite the changes the opposition made we did play very well on Tuesday with the lively Gornell in particular taking the eye. I think we are playing a bit more direct this year (which may be no bad thing) and we are one midfielder away from a promotion side (Rowland - get the cheque book out, please).
Incidentally, there were some nice comments from the Swansea fans but I would challenge their assertions that the team they put out should have been good enough to beat us. Man for man they might be better players but we were comfortably the better team - it is foolish to think that you can make so many changes as they did and the players will gel automatically. The standard of football (and pitches)in League 2 has improved greatly in the last few years - the players are fitter, pass the ball better and are much more tactically aware. You would not expect many fans from Premiership teams to be aware of this.

Good post greenhous - I got a bit tired of hearing how any team a Premier League club puts out should always beat the likes of us. As you say, it's not about the best players man for man (an assertion that could be questioned in some cases anyway), it's about the best team. No-one's disputing that we were that against both Derby and Swansea.

I'm also tired of hearing "it's a poor league this season", which we hear every season. The standard of play in the lower leagues is much higher than it used to be. The improvement in pitches is a factor, better coaching, fitness and tactical awareness might also be. But the clincher is probably that a lot of domestic players that can't get into the top leagues because of foreign players instead play in the lower leagues, with the result that League 2 teams can now sign players they couldn't have got years ago.
